Been about nine years since I last had a third gen in my driveway. And now I've realized, I don't ever want to be without one. So I trailered this girl home a couple weeks ago:



Pretty sure she'll be posing for more up close and intimate photos soon. We've been getting to know each other pretty well.

I've have had my hands all over her but no, I haven't got to drive her. Yet.

 

I'm not going to say she was in an abusive relationship, but she has been neglected. Been working on getting her cleaned up. That spoiler (and missing hatch struts and pull down motor) was the first thing to address.

Going back to the RS spoiler?

 

1986 Rear spoiler temporarily until I can get the 1987 style (which I believe is the stock design for the '90 RS). And I replaced the hatch support struts and pull down motor last weekend. I also painted a gold rim gunmetal gray so I can have matching rims all the way around.

 

Little rough around the edges but lots of potential there. Keep us posted.

 

Awesome! ....my 88 was a little rough too, but I find a lot of these fixer upper projects to be fun. Lots of low hanging fruit "fixes", AND....you kinda get a sense of the fact that while they might not LOOK like the way they rolled off the assembly line, you can really make them into nice driving, reliable cars. ...then over time you can fix up the cosmetics. My 89 was beautiful, yet somehow the fixer upper 88 has almost been MORE rewarding to work on.

 

Yes, very rough around the edges. On the plus side I don't worry too much about brushing up against a fender and scratching the paint.

Completely agree Abubaca. I'm having a blast going after the low hanging fruit. So far spoiler, hatch struts, hatch pull down motor, tail/marker/brake lamps, blinkers fixed, vacuumed (man it needed it), radiator fan working, AC compressor yanked, IAT sensor added back in, a few open vacuum lines plugged, open breather tube fixed, oil changed (filter appears completely plugged, it must weigh 5 pounds), steering column bearings and blinkers and ignition switch replaced, headlamp replaced, new tires. Next will probably be new water pump and thermostat (116k on the clock so why not), removing the window tint everywhere (it's completely degraded), fan blower motor and new windshield. Then the real mechanical work will begin.

Yeah, cosmetics will be the last thing I go after as they tend to be the first thing destroyed by clumsy people in the parking lot. After years of being OCD with new car paint jobs, this is such a relief. I'll be able to park this thing anywhere without worry that my paint job will be ruined.

 

That's awesome you're having so much fun with the car. That's what the hobby is about.

 

This is exactly why I like working on cars with some years and experience on them, don't have to worry so much about the pretty paint.
