1987 Trans Am

Here is my 1987 Firebird Trans Am. Has a rebuilt L98, engine bored 30 over, 1.6 Comp roller rockers, 3 angle valve job, swapped out pistons, Hooker 2055 competition headers, Australian Borg Warner 9 bolt rear end (277), everything else stock. My pride and joy

Nice T/A! What's the story behind it?

Re: 1987 Trans Am

My brother had picked up a 1979 TA in cherry condition after his first deployment to Afghanistan and made me want to pick up a fun car. I ran across this 87 for sale and decided this was my first car to not only have as a toy, but also learn the basics of auto mechanics. I wanted to get more power out of the car without making it a frankenstein, so I had the engine rebuilt still using the same heads, valves, intake, cam, etc. The goal was to mod it enough to get more power and still maintain the ability to replace it with OEM/stock parts. While working on this car over the years, I was pleasantly surprised to find out what this TA package had. Sure the LT1, LS1, and ZZ4s are much better than my L98 TPI, but I am still able to have fun with it and not worry about ending up in a ditch everytime I hit the gas pedal. Same goes with the rear end. Yeah, a Dana 60 might be a killer rear end, I like having the rare Australian 9 bolt. I haven't run a 1/4 mile in it yet, but when I do, I'll post my times. Thanks for the compliment! I love my TA more than anything else in the world!
