After 15 years.....I got one again

Here is what I just bought. I have not picked it up yet due to work and bad weather and I dont want to drive it in this crappy rain and snow. I had one before I went into the military and had to sell it while I was gone and I can not wait to get behind the wheel of the TA again. This is what it has and what has been done to it.

1986 Pontiac Trans Am LB89 5.0 liter V-8 MPFI engine, G80 limited slip differential, MXO 4 speed automatic with overdrive, 74L74 Flame Red Metallic, CC1 locking hatch roof, GM stock security system, all power, standard WS-6 package, only 59,433 miles as of 27 August 2012. Serviced by Rusty Jones, comes with PHS documentation. Replaced fuel pump and installed a new ac compressor newest coolant. The original tape deck with radio was fixed to keep stock. Changed oil to royal purple and replaced air filter to K&N. T-tops don t leak and all original. Rear calipers rebuilt. Replaced the rear passenger seat belt from a 1986 Pontiac Firebird SE. New AC Delco shocks. Newer battery, tires, exhaust, windshield, and driver s side mirror was professionally installed. New sport bra for distance driving.

Re: After 15 years.....I got one again

Are you certain it's a WS6? It appears to have the wrong wheels. If I'm not mistaken it should have the 16x8 wheels with a deeper lip, those appear to be the 15x7s. I could be wrong, I'm sure someone else will know for sure.

That's a clean one

That's why I'm never getting rid of the GTA... there's nicer cars out there but I would be filled with guilt and regret if I ever sold the thing, so much so that I'd have to go hunting for one 15 years down the road, if not sooner...

I'm attached to it
Is that weird or does anybody else feel the same?
I imagine that guys who haved owned/sold hundreds of 3rd gens are probably rolling their eyes right now lol

If you look on the PHS info,it will tell you what options were ordered from the Dealer if they ordered a copy of the original window sticker price list. And their should also be a dealer order sheet with the package.

That's Perfectly Normal man some of us are like that with our 3rd Gens or other cars, every once in a while it just happens to someone you know?. same with girls too, One day You will see one that's so Beautiful it catches your Eyes and just takes your breath away like no other ever has before and you know she's special to you when you want her and just can't stop thinking about her even though you know you probably can't have her, ( I'm speaking about both ) to those have gone thru that, I know first hand that, It's Literally Like Hell inside of You, You just don't know what to do to help The Heartache, but if your fortunate enough to Acquire the Image of what it is You desire the most, I don't wanna say that you learn but you Truly Realize, just how lucky and Happy you are and remind yourself that You will Never Give it up for Anything in the world, no matter how rare or common or Unique it may be or look like to others, Simply because It is "Special" to You and it is The Object that Brings You Happiness.

I used to feel that way. Then reality hit and I realized I could have a nicer GTA than what I would invest in my 86. If I would have made that decision years ago, I could have had a new 4th Gen WS6. I know when the 86 leaves my house for the last time, I'll feel a little down. However, a different GTA will be coming soon to enjoy.

I've realized that we are all just keeper's of cars for a while, then someone else will get to enjoy them.

Great TA. I had the same interior in my 86 before redoing it a few years ago. Always loved it.

Yes I did get it. Drove it home 100 miles and it ran like a dream. Smooth and no surprises. got it home washed and did a quick wax swept out the interior and cleaned it up. drove it for the day and put her away. Got some good weather coming this weekend and going to maybe try to clean up the engine bay a little bit. And show it off a little more.

I know how you feel. I had another '91 Trans Am GTA like the one that I have now. I traded it in, in January of 1997 for my '97 WS6 T/A that I still have. I only got rid of it because I believed it was jinxed. That car got hit like 6 times in such a short time span, and I felt that I needed to get rid of it even though I didn't want to. I later felt like that was the worst mistake ever and ended up buying the one I currently have. I'm NEVER getting rid of this one.

Right now we are in a middle of a snow storm and it is driving me nuts not driving it. It will be nice all weekend up to the 60's and sunny, and I HAVE TO WORK.I may bring it to work and do some detailing on it.

Re: After 15 years.....I got one again

Cant believe it has been a year already. I put 1000 miles on it this past summer and now I am ready to get it out again. But with temps in the 20's and a fresh 4 inches of snow looks like I will be waiting for a long time, but here are a few pics I took right before going to a cruise in.

Re: After 15 years.....I got one again

Thanks guys yes it is going to stay all stock. Waiting for some good weather to get the oil changed and change the fluid in the rear end and the seal. All oil has been changed to rural purple. Hoping to do some small cosmetic work just some small things to make it stick out a little more as far as details.

Got the rear end fluid changed, also had a small leak on the rear end got that repaired, still trying to find time to get the oil changed.I hate that rubber spoiler, it has some cracks in it and I am undecided to buy the hawks spoiler or leave the rubber one on and just keep it completely stock.
Drove it a couple times this year so far not much. Need to get some more pics of it as soon as I get it out again. This whole work thing gets in the way of being able to do much.

The seal was bad on it. Just drained it pulled off the cover and got some of the NAPA RTV sealant and the leak is fixed, the hardest part was getting the new lubriant back in the rear end. i ended up going to home depot getting some 1/2" clear plastic tubing and cut it the length I needed to be able to turn the bottle upside down and squeeze all the lube into the rear end...........after re reading this it sounds pretty preverted....but it is what it is I guess

Well unfortunately it looks like I am going to have to sell it. have to move and where I am going I wont be able to drive it. I have only put roughly 2000 miles on it and it has been covered in a garage. If there is any interest let me know. I wont be giving it away cheap. you can pm me. It has 61,000ish miles on it dont know for sure havent had it out since the weather changed. Hate to do it but I need to.

Sorry to hear that, it's a great looking car & I love those two tone interiors!

Shot me an e-mail with your contact information and what you're looking to get for it - depending on price I might be interested. I'd prefer an 88 & up Formula but yours is so nice!
