Why is it that only SOMETIMES when you post in someone else's thread is the post registered?

I've not had any issues. May be an issue with your browser/internet connection ?

Re: Posting criteria

Are you getting tricked by infinite scrolling and related threads? When those two features are enabled in your user control panel, scrolling down to reply can trick you into putting your reply into the related thread, rather than the thread you were viewing.

I don't think that's the problem if it were then posting in a "related thread" should still register as a post, but about 1 out of three of my posts outside of my own threads are not being added to my running total, also if it were a browser of connectivity issue, you would expect that none of them would register, or that some wouldn't at all.....

Re: Posting criteria

We'd have to check with JT, or maybe one of the Mods, but I know on my forum, I can control at the sub-forum level if posts in that sub-forum count towards a users total post count. Perhaps the examples you are noticing are not adding to your total based on something similar here.

For example, IB may have things set up here so that thread in the "History and Originality" area don't count towards ones total. Not saying that's the case, just saying it could be.

Re: Posting criteria

Interesting... Are you asking how some posts you make count toward your "post count" or you mean they don't ever show up in the thread?

Pretty sure posts in the Members Camaros/Members Firebirds boards, and all posts in the classifieds don't add to the post count. I thought you were saying you'd reply to a thread, then when you refreshed the thread your reply wouldn't be there. If it's the reply not being added to the post count on one of the above forums, that's normal. Suppose it's to keep people like me from creating a build thread/blog and post whoring to inflate my numbers. For the record, I got my post count the old fashioned way, ****-posting on the long extinct Non-Tech forum back when that was a thing. LOL If anything it's just an indicator that I have a LOT of free time, or rather I just spend my time on the forum when I should be doing something more productive, like cleaning the garage or sanding the car.
