CODE 44 please help
anyone know whats going on?....
symptoms doesnt stay at constant idle
check engine light comes on when idling for a few miniutes
goes away when going
this is annoying

well again, not sure if your car is a camaro or a firebird, don't know if their the same setup...
but anyway from what i read, code 44 is a emission problem....
meaning the exhaust system is running lean..
well this is gonna need alot of testing and time to figure out if your car does indeed has this problem
don't know if your car is carb. or fuel injected for there are 2 directions to approching this lean condition
*this is just a few listings to check lean conditions on Carb. systems.
-on carb systems: check for a sticking M/C solenoid.
-check the ECM wiring connections, particularly terminals 9 and 14.
-check for vacuum leakage at carburetor base gasket, vacuum hoses or intake manifold gasket.
-check for air leakage at air leakage at air management system to exhaust ports and at decel valve
-check fuel lines if it's kinked and/or check fuel filter that's in the carb. i think.
*this is just a few lists for fuel injection
for Fuel injection.
-check ECM wiring harness connections.
-check for incorrect fuel pressure
-check for 02 sensor signal..this can really tell if the car is running lean or rich.
-check check for kinked fuel lines
-check for fuel pump output operation
-checked for kinked vacuum lines especially at the fuel pressure regulator.
-check air filter for restriction (don't laugh there are many stories about this that may cause a car to die out!)
-you can also check for fuel injection operation, (only a special tool can perform this task and you need a fuel pressure gauge to check it out as well)....

Car: '92 Z28; Dk Teal; Her Pkg
Engine: 305
Transmission: Richmond 6 Spd
Axle/Gears: Moser 9", Detroit Locker, 3.70
Some other possibilities are that the O2 sensor is defective, or disconnected from the ECM. Or, if you recently relocated the oxygen sensor (when installing headers, for example), the sensor may be too far from the ports & may not be heating up to an adequate temperature. If that is the case, you will need a heated O2 sensor.
