i need a walkthrough on rockford amps

i installed my rockford amp (400a4, not the newest model, its the one with grey end caps.) and i was adjusting the gain and bass and whatnot, but i dont understand the 4/2 option, nor do i understand the 0 and 180 degree option (phasing?). also, i use rockford rca cables, they are the newest type, light blue in color with white ends, and they have this little wire (ground?) inbetween the two rca cables. what do i do with that wire? thanks

That would be your remote wire, you hook that up to your deck. I have the same monster cables, and there was something wrong with that wire in the middle of the cables when i plugged it in, so I had to run another one. Your would probably be alright, I bought mine used off of e-Bay.

The 4/2 option is for bridging the amp. Basically you can set it to run in 4 channel mode....or 2 channel mode. 2 channel mode gives you more power per channel...but obviously 2 less channels. If you run it in 2 channel mode (I run my sub amp bridged to 2 channels) then you have to wire the speakers up a little different. Use the 2 outside connectors on each terminal box. The amp should have 2 sets of 2 channels with the power, ground and remote hookups in the middle of both sets. You use a positive and a negative connector from each set of 2.....

Read up in the Rockford manual....it describes it pretty good.

The 0 and 180 degrees is for phasing. Basically tweaking the system...not real up on this...so maybe someone else can chime in.

The thin little wire between your RCA's is used for your remote turn on lead. Hook it to your deck's remote/antenna wire and it will turn on your amps when you turn your key.

Hope this helps!

The phase swtich is basically a trial and error tune. Try it both ways and go with what sounds best to you. As far as the RCA's, I don't know about yours in particular, but mine (Monster Cable) have a little wire coming out of one end, which I grounded to my head unit, which supposedly keeps the noise down. It is only on one end of the RCA's though, so if you have a wire coming out of both ends, it may be for remote turn on. Unless it's pretty long though, it would be hard to use with some amps. The RCA connections are on one end of my amp, with all my power, speaker, and remote connections on the other end of the amp, 2 feet away.

that little wire is the remote wire. Manufactures just decide that since the RCA cables and Remote wire 99.99% of the time go to the back of the head unit, just make it easier for us and put it with the cables so we dont have to run the wires twice.

I dont use it though because like Mike said, its usually the same length as the RCA cables so that you have to add length to it, plus I like to limit any chance what-so-ever of engine noise entering the amp.
