Timing cover clearance
I have just installed a edelbrock true rolling timing chain
(pn-7801) on my 89 305. The problem is that when i install my timing cover (aluminum) it is really close to touching the chain and with the timing cover gasket off it actualy touches. I was wondering how much clearance is required and if there is a problem how can i fix it.

most aftermarket t-covers are designed to be ground for camshaft adjustment of enply
there should be a piece of the cover that sticks out a bit right in the center of the top gear.. if you use a cam bushing (which your 305 probably does not), it would be ground down to make the endplay clearance correct.
If you have ok clearance with the gasket in place your alright.
