NJ DMV Inspection

Hey NJ guys I got a question about getting inspected at the state centers. Do they automatically pop the hood on our cars for a visual test? Do they throw the car on rollers for the emission tests?

Re: NJ DMV Inspection

been awhile since i attempted to get any of my cars through there lol. i cant seem to remember if they pop the hood or not, but i do know they put it on rollers and run it up to a decent cruise speed for a minute or so. unless they did away with it in the past year and a half?

Re: NJ DMV Inspection

Yea I thought they would pick on our older sports cars by popping the hood. My concern is that I have a 4" cowl which probably screams open me to them. Right now I don't have the AIR hooked up, I deleted the EFE, and EGR. I'm also planning on installing a B&M 144 which should still pass sniffer test.

I didn't think they put the older cars on the rollers cuz the standards were different then.

Re: NJ DMV Inspection

i thought any cowl above 3" in NJ was illegal, and just put a highflow cat on ur car if you don't already have you ,you'll most likely pass if not then go to a shop and have them slap a sticker on.

Re: NJ DMV Inspection

Well I already have a decently mod'd engine, incl a cam and high-flow cat etc (see sig)

Last year I went to a private shop for a special sticker, but I want to build my car, so I don't need to, but I'm afraid the state centers are going to nit pick everything. I don't know about the cowl, I hope not, but I did have a cop stop to help and didn't say anything about the hood, but then he also didn't say anything about my tires sticking out 1/4"+
