My great grandmother's Z28
My great grandmother's Z28
I've recently come into possession of my great grandmother's 1984 Z28 Camaro. It's fully loaded, with the H/O 4bbl 305, 4 spd automatic, factory AC, and a black on beige interior. All it's missing is the posi rear and t-top roof. I was especially surprised that she opted for the carbureted engine (and glad that she did). She doesn't like cars, and wasn't a woman of means. When I asked her why she bought it, she told me a funny story.
It's 1983, and she wanted a new car. Her late husband, John, my great grandfather, went to the local Chrysler dealership and negotiated with a salesperson while Marie, my great grandmother, was at work. When Marie clocked off, she went with John to pick up the car. All the paperwork was done, and all she had to do was sign the dotted line. When she arrived at the dealership, she saw that the car was a brown box on wheels, maybe a Reliant or something. She said the car looked like a coffin and that she didn't want it. John leads her out of the dealership while the salesperson has a nuclear meltdown.
They went to the Chevy dealership down the road, and she sees a gorgeous red Camaro in the showroom, buys it, and drives it home. "I wanted something stylish" she said to me. She could have done a lot worse (like a Chrysler LeBaron perhaps).
It spent it's life in Northeast Philly, it's been banged up and repainted twice, and once got stolen. It was stored in a garage for three fourths of it's life, only being driven occasionally. They never sold it. It only has 60,000 miles. I plan on taking good care of it. Hope you liked the story, and God bless.

Awesome story. I hope the car gets restored.
The '84 Z-28 parts-car I had did not have a posi either, and I have read that there was a shortage of 7.5" GM posi rear-ends in 1984. I still put that one-wheel-peel into my '83 Firebird because it has 3.73 gears, and I figure I can add a posi later...
