opinion needed for camaro purchase
I have been looking for a 91-92 z28 for quite some time, seen some trashers, seen some nice ones. I have found two at the same time and they couldn't be more different and the same at the same time I need your opinions. Please.
First car. 1991 z28 350, auto, cloth. This is a one owner car and visually is immaculate, perfect for a car with 147k on it. The paint is perfect, the body is perfect, it has been well kept, and it looks like a car with 10k on it. Has been well maintained and unmolested. I offered 3800.00 for the car and I feel its in the ball park.
Second car. 1992 z28 5-speed car, with g92. was a 305, but now a 350tpi reman engine. Clean car, runs great, an 8 out of 10 on the outside, but the paint is shiny all around. This is another well cared for car, but is not unmolested. This is a non original car. The seller isnt "selling" but will sell, a great guy by the way, but a stellar businessman, can't blame him. Wan'ts 6500.00 for the car. I think its a bit steep, despite the great car it is. BTW 130k on the body, about 7k on all the work.
I am at a loss here. Couldn't be more different, but couldnt be more similar for me.
I am not looking for a collector, but a driver to love and care for. To keep forever.
Can I get some educated opinions here? The 92 is a little out of the range I wanted to spend and may also that may be the deciding factor. But my eyes are open.
your opinions are welcome, as for I am at an indecisive loss.

Wow. Quite a dilemma. Welcome to TGO!
However, the 147k car would be my choice. It sounds like a nicer car, it is cheaper, and like you said ... it is unmolested. That would mean a lot to me. Not for collector value, but for the simple fact that you have a "clean slate" to work with if you ever decide to do mods or if you need to swap in a new motor. But if it has been cared for like you say, then I'd say it will keep going for a while.
Also, if you can get it for $2500-3000 less, that's mod money, baby!! Take it and make it your own. If the other is a little out of your price range, then I think it's a no-brainer. Good luck on your purchase!
Oh! Make sure that 147k car has RPO G80.

I am really all over the 91, Its a gut feeling. I know its the right choice and gives me a wonderful canvas to work from and a great car to park next to my 02 SS!
Re: opinion needed for camaro purchase
I say go for the unmolested 91. You have a highly optioned car in great shape. You wont find any surprises such as crappy wiring, crappy "hot rod attempts, shortcuts, etc. i wish I went that route..

jump on that 91'
the dude with the '92 is "selling" you by saying it's not for sale...
the price is right for the condition you say it's in too, and if you want a driver, automatic is much nicer. Who wants to shift gears in rush hour to and from work?!
and if you're looking for a car to take care of... you want one that is already well cared for... not one that's going to need a lot of TLC after you buy it...
cheers

Always go with your gut. I think your choice is clear! Now go pick it up and show us some pics!
Re: opinion needed for camaro purchase
Totally agree with everyone else that posted. Go with the 91 that looks perfect. LOOK at your own post and read it again...the answer is definitely clear when you read it. Perfect car...perfect paint...etc etc.. the other owner (92) is trying to take you to the cleaners on his...ugh...run the other way!!!!

Even though I like manual cars,I think this time the better choice is the 91 and like the others have said take the extra couple thousand and make the mods you like.

The 91 for sure... It's nice, and a rare opportunity to have a clean slate to start with.
