North Central Illinois Fall Get Together

Ok Guys,

It's time to set up one more get together before we have to put our cars away. Anyone up for it?

I'm sorry I had to miss the Sterling get together at Chris' place. I was really bummed when my wife woke up sick. She told me to go ahead but I couldn't leave her alone feeling like that.

Anyway, how about 9/29 or 10/7? I can think of three possible options:

1) Somewhere around Starved Rock again. It's about as centrally located as we can get with easy Interstate access.

2) If we don't want to picnic and just hang out and look at the cars, there is a mall in Peru just south of I-80 on 251. That might also be a place to meet. Plenty of parking and we may get some 3rd Gens to just drop by and hang out too.

3) Up near Byron where we can picnic and then go to the races.

Just some suggestions. Let me know what you think!

i am always up for meetings but......

i am not driving that far again for nobody to show up. most of you guys know me well enough to know that i will drive just about anywhere if there will be a nice sized turn out. the one we had at the park was nice !!(but poor Chris- the meeting that was supposed to be held at his house didn't get even a decent turn out and that is just bs: . if we all say that we are going to meet somewhere and then put somebodys entire weekend on hold because he was nice enough to hold the meeting and then not show up is just not right). I understand that things come up and we have to cancel plans but for as many posts that these topics always get--- at least 1/2 of the people should show up!

Nikki

We'll let's pick a date. What's better for everyone? I have a conflict on 10/6. Could we either go 9/29 or 10/13?

Let me know your preference so we can start making plans.

Later!

Since I have to drive even further than Nikki, I must say, I too will not go unless people are going to show up. That was total bs last time.

If someone wants to volunteer to organize the fall gathering, that's cool. Let's get a date chosen so everyone can reserve the date.

Well I made it halfway there to find out nobody showed and that Nick and Nikki were leaving so I turned around. The only people I knew who were gunna be there were leaving so I didn't want to head up there without anyone I know being there too. But anyways like I said, I'd like to go but I won't even bother unless I'm sure everyone is going to come. I don't see any point in wasting 30 bucks on gas to go sit in a park by myself ya know what I mean?

Also, I vote for the weekend of 10/5-6/02 or 10/12-13/02. In other words, Saturday and/or Sunday, October 5th and/or 6th, or Saturday and/or Sunday, October 12th and 13th. Why? Because that gives an entire ***MONTH*** for everyone to make plans. That means EVERYONE will have PLENTY of time to make sure they have the days off, make sure there isn't going to be a baby shower for their sister, make sure Grandpa Harry stays alive for another couple days, etc. IF you say you're gunna show, and you don't, and I drive 3 hours to wherever we meet, you better be:

A) Dead.
B) So sick you might as well be dead.
C) Your car stolen.
D) Your house burnt down (in which case your car should still be in suitable condition to drive it to a frickin' meeting)
E) Held hostage at a bank robbery.

IF options A-E do not apply to the reason you didn't show up, I'll enforce option A upon you with my bare hands. Got it?

IF YOU CANNOT GO TELL US AT LEAST 5 HOURS BEFORE THE SCHEDULED MEETING. DO NOT SAY YOU ARE GOING TO BE THERE AND THEN NOT SHOW UP.

Thanks.

Yeah, set a date. Sundays are usually 95% good for something, unless I am working on the Pontiac. (Sorry, Gotta get the Goat done )

I was being humorous with a lot of that I said, but I'm serious. We really need to have a meeting where everyone who says they're going to show up, show up. This is more than enough time to plan around. If your boss comes up to you and says "Hey I need you to work on 10/6/02" You've got 2 choices. You can tell your boss "Sorry I would but I've got something going on that's been planned for weeks now" or you can say "Sure" and tell US that you have to work and can't make it. Besides this might be the last meet out in Illinois I'll go to because once I get my T/A up and running again I'm not going to put excess miles on it. As soon as I can afford it (Probably late next summer) I'll have somethin else to drive and my T/A will be a weekend car. Going to keep it as nice as possible. Why not, hell I'm putting an entire new engine in, new radiator, etc. etc. etc. New paint job later on when I get the money for it (Clear coat trashed from the ignorant original owner who took it to automatic car washes). Anyhow my point is once I get my T/A up and running again I won't be driving the Blazer anymore and I don't want to drive my car all the way out to central Illinois or further. So I'd like a good turnout this October - it's not that hard to plan around.

Yes come and have fun--- there are always car guys that don't have their cars out at the meetings!!!!! We don't set up barriers that you can't pass unless you are in a 3rd gen-- you are on the boards and we all talk to eachother- might as well come out and talk in person.

Is anyone looking to buy an old 3rd Gen for a project car? I drive by a mid 80's on my way to and from work everyday. It was for sale for a while but apparently didn't get any buyer because the guy has it back next to his garage. The body looks like it isn't too bad. I couldn't see any rust or dents.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I can stop and get some info on it.

Do we have a date for the next get together yet? It won't be long and the weather will start getting colder. Heck, the Blackhawks start their preseason next week! Let's get something set so we can make plans.

I was trying for volo auto museum in the no dissappointment for anyone who actually shows meet :-P that way no single member gets obligated into doing anything or spending any $$$$ and we can all gather and easily have a place to blow 4-5 hrs at and still have a good time and get to see lots of neat rides all at once....
check it out and reply back what'cha think

I'm following along here....

As long as I know where/when in advance, I should be up. But, being back in school and stuff, it can sometimes depend on how my week goes.

If I do make it to the meeting though, I might get stoned by the loyalists... a few of you guys know what I'm talkin about!

Jeremy,

You didn't steal my thunder. I'm just glad that someone came up with a plan.

Your idea about meeting in Volo is awesome! Thanks for stepping up and taking charge.

Personally, I'm only off every other weekend. I'd be up for it on 10-13 since that is my weekend off. Whatever you guys decide I'll let you know as soon as there is a solid date.

I just caught this area of the boards and am about an hour from Starved Rock or 30 min. from Rockford. I think the 10-13 sounds good. I should have the new trans in by then.
