auto switch
How dificult would it be to take out the auto tranny and throw in a manual one?

Have you tried doing a search in the Transmissions and Drivetrain message board?
I know this topic has come up many times in the past. IIRC one thing you need to do is cut the transmission tunnel for the shifter. This could be a challenge if you have limited access to tools(metal shear/nibbler or sawz-all) not to mention time.
Do a search and I'm sure you will find out all you need.
