oil
well ive logged 100 miles on my 92 camaro rs with a new 350 tpi and five speed. one thing is making me a little nervous. i changed the oil after the first 100 miles and it was pretty metallic looking. please someone tell me that is normal for breakin with these engines. otherwise the car flys and is loud as hell. also i have alot of parts off of an 89 iroc and a 92 rs. i also have the complete v6 for sale. basically anything in the engine compartment i didnt have to replace on my car i have.

tell you the truth im not sure either but i would say keep a good eye on it and change it every 50-100 miles till it clears up. It would also(hard to do) take it easy on it for a bit for it to break in. I've been told that you should take it easy under 55mph for the first 500 miles to be safe. Also you should get a magnetic oil plug i got mine at chevy for like 7 bucks and helps the small particles stick to the plug, also get one of those oil filter magnets as well to help the metal shaving from getting back into the engine.
How metallic? I know this post is a little old but IF you happen to have the oil in a pan still, take a magnet and run it around the bottom a bit, bring it up to the side and see how much metal shavings come out.. There shouldn't be a lot. A little bit is typical but if there's a lot you better call whoever you bought that motor from and please don't say Speedomotive.com.

that is a good idea the magnetic drain plug. if something is messed on the engine id probably have to blame myself since i put it together. but the bearings and crank were provided by the machine shop as well as the cam etc. first i have to replace the slave cylinder that blew apart on me.

if you're lucky, that "metallic" look the oil had was just some break in lube from the cam...... that is, if it has a flat tappet cam that had moly lube on it...

its a roller cam and i coated it with lucas oil stabilizer before i put it in. actually all moving parts i coated with that stuff. i also pumped up the oil pressure before starting. i hope your right and there was moly grease on the cam or roller lifters. i did put that moly grease on the rod bolts. maybe the extra grease washed off in the oil.

my oil press sender was bad, oil press is fine and ive put another 200 miles on with no metal in oil. but my slave cylinder has blown and my clutch has slipped. i dont know what the deal is here. and how the hell do you get the old oil press sender out. the oil port on the back of block just behind the intake wont stop leaking any ideas.

That is normal.. I was taught to change the oil after the initial startup when you run it for about 15 minutes... Then change it after 100-150 miles, Then shes ready to get beat on. Just nobody break your engine in with synthetic... thats the stuff that prevents the metal-metal wear that is necessary for a proper break in.

im glad to know thats normal, the engine is great and seems to be running fine. the only problem is that the clutch slips occasionally if i beat on it, due to a weak pressure plate and /or thin clutch disc. also i would not recommend using a v6 trans with a v8, the gearing sucks. first and second dont feel right and its starting to annoy me.
