new life for my IROC-Z
O.k. that whole losing faith thing is done and over. I realize something realy important and that is this car is my baby and I should not give up on it so this is what I have done and what I am doing....................
body--- I called a few places and got a really good quote from one place for under a grand I can get my body work and 2 stage paint done. I have seen this guys work and I am quite impressed esspecialy for the money he is also gonna shave my antenna. I have done a few changes on my car already that include a fiberglass notchback rear hatch and converting to 84 Z-28 rear bumper I am currently looking for a 2-3 inch cowl hood.
interior--- I originaly had a medium gray cloth interior but I switched it out for a black leather GTA interior with the recaro buckets. I have added the overhead console and I just recently found the CAMARO flashlight for it. I finally got my B&M megashifter and it went in so easy that I swear I had to have done somthing wrong. I have the black Grant challenger wheel but I am going to get rid of that and find a chrome challenger it will match better with the megashifter. I still can not decide what guages I want to use so I will inform you guys latter on that.
Rims--- I originally could not decide wether I wanted Torqe thrust twos or the GTA rims I already have but now I have decided. I took my black gta rims and stripped the paint and now I like them silver so now all I have to do is find some good 245-50-16 white letter tires for my rims.
Suspension--- nothing done yet but my plans are to get.......
panhard bar (lakewood)
control arms (lakewood)
strut tower brace (edelbrock)
8 point roll cage (jegs)
all new poly bushings (energy suspension)
shocks and struts (KYB)
torque arm (random technology)
and now the good part MOTOR and TRANS..............
I purchesed an 88 350 roller block from one of my buddies for 100 bucks and here is what I am doing to it...
stock flat-top pistons
new rod and main bearings
new white stripe oil pump spring (GM)
stock TPI heads mildly ported
steath ram intake (holley)
LT4 hot cam (GM)
1.6 roller rockers (GM)
LT1 valve springs (GM)
TCI 700R4 transmission with street fighter stall converter
headers not sure what to go with yet
3 inch flowmaster exuast with no cats
And thats what I got so far how does it sound? I am open to any comments or questions so please lets hear your input good or bad be honest. I am still taking pics of this as I go so you guys will see them soon.

i am from wisconsin also....where did u get a good quote for ur paint??? i am looking for a new paint job also.
the motor sounds like it would be a good setup. did u decide wut ur going to use for igniton yet?
as for exhaust. i have the flowmaster setup with no cats. AWESOME. i recommend hooker headers. very nice. ceramic coated is up to u.
wheels. i jsut saw an iroc the other day with silver gta rims and it looked MEAN. i think i might go with that setup also.

Wow I thought I was the only one who likes stripped GTA rims! Hooker full length or shorty? I think MSD ignition.

i have shortys, i got the shortys so i could keep my cat back exhaust. I wanted the cat back so i could keep my ground clearance because i have a steep driveway
. im not sure if u can use long tube headers on cat back exhaust. u can use long tube and shorty on true duals though.
if u are interested in cat back exhaust, flowmaster and hooker make GREAT kits for it.
i have all accel igniton because i couldnt really afford MSD. but MSD is AWESOME

Why do you regret the aftermarket cam? Thats not good news for me cause the LT4 hot cam seems to be a little out of my budget right now and I was gonna do an aftermarket for the time untill I have the money for the hot cam. As far as mine taking less time I would not bet on it cause I dont have a garage either and I am laid off of work right now. I just take times like thease to do indoor detailing on various parts you know free stuff!

MY car... where do I start. I'm happy with the fact I can get in, start it up and drive it. Besides for all the rates with not havin the rear hatch motor tighten down, lack on interior in, no radio, not having a center consol in. Hey you know how much stuff the center consol can hold if the top part is out.... you would be amazed. O yeah the bad I think trans mount. Other than that its ok, I'm just waitin to get school done, then i can start workin on the car and get some more cash flow for the motor build up.

I suggest the Spohn suspension pieces. They are great and they are a lot cheaper than a lot of other companies. I have a Spohn Torque arm and a tranny crossmember, and a safty loop. I will be getting the panhard bar and the LCA's. Very nice stuff. I would also suggest something other than an LT4 cam, as they are fairely small. I mean you could find better cams on e-bay all day long for even cheaper than the Hot Cam. Even check other boards anc classifieds. And if you are gonna go to the trouble of getting the Stealth Ram, I would also suggest something other than the stock TPI heads. Aluminum L98's or even iron Vortecs would be better... porting those would also help. Glad you decided to stick with it!

The only reason I decided on the LT4 hot cam is cause it came highly recomended in two of my tuned port books. Does anyone know of a better 1200-5000rpm cam. This car is going to be used on the street so I am looking for tire shreding torque and power that does not drop off realy fast like the stock TPI cam. I do not know much about cams so I need alot of help choosing the right one for high performance street. I also got talked out of my 1.6 rocker arms so I guess I did not need that much lift after all! I cant wait to drive my car again it will be so nice. I have not had a car since my block cracked late last year! Keep them coming with the recomendations especialy budget minded ones cause that will get my motor together quicker.

The LT4 Hot cam is 218/228 .525/.525 (w/ 1.6rr) and 112 lsa if you want a manual. If you are gonna go with an auto trans you should get a 114 lsa.
A friend of mine desktop dynod this cam 222/226 .544/.544 (w/ 1.6rr) and 114lsa along with aluminum fast burn Vortec heads and the stock TPI intake. He got roughly 320hp and 440trq, just massive amounts of torque. He used to use this cam in his LT1 and he said it would roast his tires no problem.
Notice the RR he has there, you should think about those 1.6 some more.
You could look for cam specs similar to that or whatever you want to produce the output your looking for.

I was getting massive torque figures too. Till I was told by the company that DD2000 doesn't do the math for Hydrolic Roller very accuratly yet. So they recomended using flat tappet settings for hyd. Roller cams.
Just a note.

What is 112lsa and 114lsa? Like I said I am new with this cam stuff as this is my first actual motor build! So you think I should check more into the 1.6s? My buddy told me that is too much lift for the street. And I know it is more lift than my buddys 409 has and that thing should be a monster!

LSA is Lobe Seperation Angle. LSA is whats gonna determine how lumpy it is at idle. Us auto guys almost always go with a 114 LSA becasue of their natrually more stable idle because with an auto you will be loading the engine at idle speeds.

Well looks like I wont have to rush my decision on motor stuff cause I cant get the stuff together I need to in time to get my car running for all the gatherings so for now I am building it up stock and just making plans to tear it back out when I have all the parts already together. Alright now Ive set myself back again this time for a set of blackouts. I traded all my black plasic interior peices for taillight blackouts to match my headlight blacouts I got from a buddy the other day. Go figure I trade my plastic for somthing illeagle. O-well! Other than that I am still waiting to finish my motor and drop it in. I have the long block assembled all I need to do is put the intake on and an oil pan gasket and it is ready to go in hopefully this will happen next week. It would have been done sooner but conflicting sceduals hold things back. Other than that need to get a radiator and fix my exaust leak (my y-pipe cracked) and my car should be road worthy again
then I can work on getting everything how I want it.
