Soon moving to Ohio, Emissions Testing required?

Just wondering if Ohio has etest requirements, or whether there is an exemption for a car of a certain age.

I have an 87 iroc, but the TPI has been pulled and replaced with a solid roller 383 carbed motor. And I know it won't pass etesting up here in Ontario, Canada, but I'm exempt because the car is over 20yrs old.

I hope some of you's can tell me what I need to know. I'll be living somewhere near Georgetown,Ohio, in Brown County. Or I could possibly live on the Kentucky side and commute.

if it it over twenty years old than you are good. only counties I know for sure that tests is summit and some around Akron, Canton, Columbus, Cinn.

If you have a CAT than you will basically pass. Your car is old enough. It is only a visual.

I have cats for it, but they're not installed, but they could be in like 1 hour or so.

Thats good to know. At least I can bring my car with me and not have to sell it.

Depends on what county you move to. I live in NE Ohio and in my area for a fact Cuyahoga (i.e. Cleveland area) and Lake County (to the East of it) will require testing. If the car is pre 1996 (i.e. pre OBDII) they will put it on a treadmill. Newer cars they plug into the computer. I have an 1987 IROC-Z and it is required to get tested as is my wife's 1988 Vette. After the first time, you can register it as a collector car and avoid the eCheck. I had moved away for 3 yrs to FL and moved back home this year and had to go through those tests; so, my info is "fresh". Anywhere near the "Big" cities will likely require it. Other parts of OH don't have it; the county just South of me does not test. So, beware of what part of OH you are moving to. To be sure, you can always contact the Local BMV or eCheck station for that area.
