Can a person LEGALLY do a LS swap into a third gen in the st.louis area? ive asked before on the stupid emissions website but they gave me a link to some other website that was confusing as all get out. So, im wanting to put an ls series engine into my 89 rs instead of the TPI setup i was going to do. Can i do that?

 

Yes the LS series engines can be installed in older cars with all emissions intact, IE cat converters, air pumps, o2 sensors ect. Any engines older that the model year of the car can not be installed legally. It may vary from state to state but that is the basics.

 

depending on location they get real specific with stuff like the converters need to be in the same location as the donor car. ( nice thing is you can cut/rotate the f-body ones to fit) need to use the ls1 air lid and so on.

some locatons are only concerned with just having all the equipment working no failure codes
