My new Camaro

fist off, i would like peoples suggestions

Hey guys, I started this account when i had an 800 doller 91 rs with a 305...it was a rust bucket...i managed to sell it for 800 dollers so i got what i payed for it...but i recently bought an 82 that the previous owner sunk 15 thousand dollers into it, and i payed 2500 because he couldn't get it to sell anywhere. the engine is extreamely clean, its 350 bored .40 over, and the body is great, everything is great. I was just wondering peoples opinions on my few ideas that i had for it to make it the way i want it. I am planning on putting headers and a cam in it, headers im fine with, but i was wondering what kind of cam i should put in it. Im more of an appeal guy, granted i was thinking id take it to the strip if i could, but i want it to sound kinda old school, but rev fast and have a lot of power. the other question i had was about sidepipes, i would like to put on like 70s corvette sidepipes, but i was wondering about how loud it is with those side pipes and how the clearance would be...especially with the ground fx my car has. thats all the questions i have for now, thanks for helping guys!

p.s. i attached pictures of the new car

Re: My new Camaro

Beautiful car, like the ground fx. im not sure about the cam, but i think i would stay away from the sidepipes. clearance might be an issue, and i just don't think they would look that great with the gfx that go up higher like that.

Re: My new Camaro

yea, i kinda decided against getting full sidepipes...im thinking if i jack up the back end i might put on just tips coming out the side, but i havn't decided yet. I just got some hooker headers im gonna put on soon. i'll see how much power that frees up, if i think its not enough i figured out i'd get a 280/280 cam from comp cams.

A different problem i've been noticing is this: my camaro has a b&m full racing shift kit, and i think the stall converter is stupid. lol, thats the best way i can put it. basically in the low end it wont spin the wheels, but the mid range it'll go like a stabbed rat, then theres nothing in the high range, then it shifts and when it does it spins the wheels. I think i should get a lower kinda of shift kit but i don't know at all what i should get. any suggestions?

Re: My new Camaro

im not familiar with shift kits, and going back to the exhaust, you could do a side exit exhaust in front of the rear wheels with chrome tips. i think there may be some laws against that though, might want to check into it before doing it. but i have seen it done, and it does look good. if you jack up the rear end, just make sure you don't go too high, and if you do it, make sure you don't have tiny tires on the back. if you go too high, it just won't look right, but a little lift to help with exhaust clearance might look pretty good. i have my exhaust running straight out the back with chrome tips. since the rear bumper goes up a little bit, it doesn't lose any clearance. something to think about.

Re: My new Camaro

just looked at your picture again and see you have the exhaust running out the rear. that is the way mine looks. but yours looks off-center towards the driver side a little bit.

Re: My new Camaro

yea, what you said for side pipes is exactly what i was thinking, just chrome tips. and if i jacked it up i would put on bigger tires...actually im planning on putting on bigger tires anyway.

yea, it is off center...that is how it was when i got it..it frustrates me

Re: My new Camaro

How big of tires do you plan on putting on? you could also do a side exit exhaust right behind the rear tires. i've seen a couple guys on here with that set up.

Very sweet looking ride! Clean, if its not broke don't fix it! I would leave it as is, until you have problems. Then get new parts.

Re: My new Camaro

ok, so i still haven't been able to tune the carb (i really don't know how...) and on top of that, its been back firing terribly...im just wondering if thats because the carb isn't tuned right, or what...all i did was fix a broken valve spring (all cylinders are firing btw) and put on hooker shorty headers...now it is bogged down and back fires under load. any suggestions?

Re: My new Camaro

Not sure about your states laws but exhaust MUST exit aft of the passenger cabin in IL. Your states laws may be similar.
