Pics of my '88 IROC barn find

Hey all,

Just wanted to show what my car looked like when I found it and after it's first wash after sitting for 6 years. I plan on getting the clear coat redone as well as a 2" cowl hood with white or silver sports stripes up the hood. Me end goal is 600 HP out of the stock 350 TPI engine and 700R4 trans. This is going to be a 1 project at a time type of deal, but I like where it's at now. Let me know what you think?

Welcome aboard Go Blue. That's a good looking car when cleaned up. No furry little friends living inside, I hope?

Thanks Dave! No critters but a definite smell of mouse **** in there. Once I get the engine back running and brake system completely replaced, I'll work on the looks and smells. I doubt i'll be driving it over the Winter so that should give me a fair amount of time to get everything done and her purring again. I was told it was running great when it was parked and the trans was just rebuilt, but i'm sure all of the fluids need to be changed.

Thank you! If I didn't just buy it I would consider selling it to you, but i'm looking forward to getting it running and tearing up the roads up here. The guy that sold me that one has a red Camaro that has been sitting outside with a dent in the drivers door where it was hit. I don't know if you'd be interested in that 1 though. It's an 88 Camaro 5.0L TBI convertible. PM me if you are interested in that

Good luck on getting the mouse urine smell out. Mine was seriously infested and even four years after i cleaned it out and not having an interior in it i can still smell it sometimes.

Re: Pics of my '88 IROC barn find

My car had a mouse infestation after sitting many years. Poop everywhere, urine stains, nests, dead bodies. I threw away all soft parts that had cloth or foam. Carpet, seats, headliner, visors.... everything. Only thing that survived was door panels because it simply didn't smell for some odd reason.

Broke down all the hard parts to individual pieces and washed everything by hand with a solution of Simple Green and rinsed clean with water. The HVAC system was absolutely DISGUSTING!!!! I even wiped down the wiring throughout the interior.

Washed the tub of the car the same way, except I vacuumed out the fluids with a shop vac and dried out everything with a high power fan for a few days.

No smell after that. New carpet, new seats, new headliner, new visors, no more foam blocks in dash or rear cargo area.

Re: Pics of my '88 IROC barn find

I was lucky as I don't see any remains or poop. It cleaned up real well so far. I talked to a local car wash that does detailing and he brought up doing an Ozone cleaning that apparently gets out a lot of **** smells. I'm also thinking of having the seats redone custom once the car is running. Which i'm hoping will be just before the New Year. Fingers crossed.
