Emmisions in CT...
Emmisions in CT...
Ok guys, anyone know the deal on emmisions in Connecticut? I have two 1984 cars, and the t/a is due for emmisions soon. But I have to wait until the new system is in order. When will the new system be operative? Ive heard everything from ready in June to having to wait 6 years. What's the deal? Also how old must a car be in CT before it doesnt have to go through. Ive heard everything from 20 years old to anything newer than 82 must go through forever. Id really like to start modding the car heavily (IE remove the CCC stuff and throw in a big block, have the motor in the garage) and wont start really doing it until I know Im in the clear on the emmisions issue. Or am I just going to have to settle for an older car to go all out with. Ive just done so much now with the t/a I dont want to start another project, but this 350 just aint cutting it anymore (amazingly enough there was a time when I thought my 2.8 was fast, then the LG4 amazed me. I dont know when it will be enough :-) ) Also how are states like RI (can register a car there if needed) or NY with emmisions and open the hood inspection. The fact that CT doesnt open the hood has been a godsend with my lack of smog legal headers and smog pump, and if I put a bigblock in, it could almost be tweaked to pass. But if they see it I'm screwed.

I got my car registered during the "emmissionless" period and my sticker is for september. They said that it will be up and running again by then. I think its if the car is 25 years or older it doesn't have to go through, but I'm not sure.
i haven't heard much on what the new emissions program entails, if it will be stricter or whatever. my understanding is that it will be running by summertime.
i am pretty sure that cars over 25 are considered "classics" and do not have to be emissions tested (i have a '70 baja bug and that was not tested).
