Wednesday nights and Friday nights are time trials. Your #1 need is a helmet- even though NHRA rules say you need a helmet if your car is in the 15's, it's a Jersey law (according to Englishtown) that you need a helmet. I bought a $50 motorcycle helmet from JCWhitney (in metallic blue to match the car). They say that they rent helmets, and that they're the "old WWII biker style" helmet- not too stylish, but at least you have an option.
Tech isn't too bad; when you pay you'll need to go to the tech booth at the far back of the parking lot. The guy will look your car over for obvious problems (tugs on the hood to make sure it's latched, no bald tires, etc), and might ask you what you've done to the motor. He might have you pop the hood, but probably won't. I've never been grilled at tech.
I think it's $20 to race, $10 per pit crew member. If you don't have a "permanent number" you'll have to buy one for $2, it's good all season. And in February or so, they mail out renewal paperwork, so if you like your # and want to keep it, you mail them $2. Otherwise you just buy a new permanent number next year. That's the # they write on your window with shoe polish.
Have fun!! The first time I went, it was a freakin' blast!

shouldn't need too much to pass tech.....but if your car is 12.99 or faster, you'll need a driveshaft safety loop, 11.99 and faster you'll need I believe a 6 point cage.......not sure what you'll need beyond that.
there should be 3 trophy marathons coming up, on saturdays, you are guaranteed 6 runs for that event, it's always fun.
