Crikes, and I thought I spent a lot of money on my car!

I bought mine for $1,000 with the understanding that it had a blown head gasket. They were wrong, it was a cracked block. New reman. engine $1700 after shipping, taxes, warrenty. Ugh...only to find out they used caprice TBI 350 heads on their remans. I wish I knew about casting numbers and heads at that time

Ofcourse, thankfully it had a new radiator, water pump...etc...everything else from the cooling system was brand new. Also had new Alternator, starter....lots of new peices.

Got it in the car, well I'll be. 4th gear was gone in the tranny. Used tranny, another used tranny, and finally a third used tranny. Did I mention I hate used transmissions? Thats okay, I'm rebuilding the one going into my car for next year. Not paying someone, I'm DOING it because the cost of parts is far cheaper than the cost of labor to pay someone else. The only drive train pieces left are the drive shaft, and the axel. Thats it, everything else is new.

Other than that, I've spent about $2,700 on my car, far more than I ever expected, or wanted to spend in the first year. Stupid surprises. My only consolation is that my car has no rust.....no rust at all.

Ya that really sux. 3 trannys. damn! Your car looks damn good though. 3 grand or whatever you said is unexpected...But 10 g's without much work on mods, engine etc...AMAZING!!! Lets hope the dealer considers all that work u put into it after you try to trade it in. Cuz no way are u getting anywhere near 10,000 back for it. LOL

I know... after I had put $2000 into it I knew I had to keep the car because I wasn't getting it back

Don't get me wrong, I love these cars. Most everything about them; except the repair records

I just wish I could figure out how to get my car to go faster! It must be all tuning... as I had said before, there is a guy on these boards that has an 88 with the same engine, less mods, and is running 13.9. My best time was 15.1 with a .7 rt!

sorry dude but he isn't running 13.9's with less mods. You barely have any go fast mods....

you have exhaust and a chip(and some suspension), no way someone in a 305 is running 13.9's with less than that

Well, this is the guy:

http://www.cardomain.com/id/89rocz

1989 IROC-Z LB9 MK6 Hardtop 3.08 posi

vehicle weight with driver 3350 with a 1/4 tank of fuel

hollowed cat
emissions delete
A/C delete
throttle body coolant bypass
cut the bottoms off the air box
manifold air temperature sensor relocated to the air box cover
160 stat, manual control dual fans
dynomax super turbo exhaust
dynomax headers
headman Y pipe 2.25 to 2.50
ported plenum
ac delco plugs
centerforce dual friction clutch
energy suspension torque arm bushing
energy suspension tranny mount
9 bolt with 3.27 gears (not run at the track yet)
pbr rear calipers and 11.86 rotors

its all about 60 foot and that was with a 2.02 60, with suspension work i hope to get a 1.8 60 and with the new 3.27 rear i got im expecting 13.3-13.5

Except for the headers, I have 99% of that.

well the ported plenum and headers make a huge difference, at least it did on mine when I had the 350 in my car

It's one of two things or both. The car is in poor tune or you can't drive

Don't worry about reaction time, it means nothing when it comes to ET's.

also what does your car weigh. 3350 is pretty damn good. I know with about 1/4 tank and my stereo stuff my GTA was damn near 3800#'s I THINK I was in the car at the time, I only weigh 170

Well, it did spin thru 1st, 2nd, and half of third lol... maybe I need bigger tires

Got that run on tape, looks wicked funny because you can see the back tires going much faster than the fronts

I'm not sure about weight... I have a full interior, the 16" aluminum spare, aluminum 16" Iroc rims, etc.

But, I also have my 3/4" MDF dual 12" sub box, 2 1000 watt amps, and two 1000 watt Audiobahn subs...

Box - 50-60#
Subs - 30# each
Amps - 10# each

So that's about 130#, but I thought every 100 # was about .1 for the ET; that's why I always laughed at people who take out the back seat and the door panels

... I have a Z... an Iroc Z that is. I know that this board is biased towards Camaros (no ****, it's a 3rd gen website) but you guys have to realize that there are other cars out there... some better than others.

I will never let my love for Camaro's die, but I will have a Celica as a daily driver.

And if anyone wants to try and outhandle/out brake the Celica, PM me

Man, you know jack squat about cars... No way your old car witha 6cyl can beat the high powerd, corner cutting Celica... sorry man, no way possible. I mean look at the commercials for this car.. it even looks fast. No american car can keep up with japanese technology.

heheheh just kidding. No flame intended.

Well, I give up. I wanted people to give me reasons, not whine about how much cooler their 3rd gen is, when I bet maybe 1-2 of you have even driven a new (2000-2004) Celica.

No, they are not a *** send... but for $14000, what do you want? Our cars cost more than that 10+ years ago...

But, I guess to most people, you live by your car and no matter what anyone says; it's still the best. 10-20 year old technology MUST be better than current stuff, it only makes sense.

I was that way... till I realized that there just might be something better than one model car.

At least it's not a For d

then get it lol

you come on a thirdgen board praising the celica, you expect people to praise it as well? If YOU like it then get it...personally I don't like their looks, they're slow and IMHO not worth the $$ brand new.

Hell I'd get a SRT Neon over one, it has way more potential...

oh and I've been in a '02 celica, it didn't impress me much

then you make comments about challenging a thirdgen to outbrake and outhandle it....lol....I'd LOVE to take you up on that offer
