the red machine

Well its been a long time coming with my 1989 Irock-z I purchased it may 2003and have done a lot of motor modifications. I kept it all stock appearing except for the hardwood outlaw hood I had to purchase in 2006 for my high-rise intake to clear. I am not a very good mechanic but I do a lot of reading and see what works for people. I started off in 2003 with a 383 tpi that did not run very well and had poppeck performance rebuild it for me in 7-09-2004. Wanting more performance I purchased the mini ram from tpis in 2-11-05. Me and my good friend Larry put the miniram on in the spring and for some reason the trans went it had the originally 700r4 I wanted to rebuild it but I live in the country and my buddies were all telling me if your going to make power your going to need a 350 or 400 turbo, having little knowledge then I went with a 350 and purchased a 11inc coan converter. My down fall at the track was a sick 277 gear in the rear boarg warner which you can not get gears for. My car ran 12.77 in the quarter which I thought was good for a 277 gear. Basically 1st and 2nd threw the quarter, in need of a rear. Broke all summer, I bought a rear with 373s and a good set of 30lbs injectors new exhaust 3inch dual all the way back to to two delta force flow master mufflers. I also purchased a 8 inch coan high performance converter, getting serious about racing but want a stock look. In also I ordered 16inch triple chrome stock iroc-z wheels. Stock wheels but a nice touch of show and go.heres the bad part get it all ready to go to the track and I had a friend put in the injectors and did not double check, one injector not all the way in testing car on the street running lean boom, I think I shedded a tear that day.. Well not being a great mechanic, I went and purchased a motor from m and r engines in Glendale, ca. I purchased it over the net. I purchased the hp 383 and had all arp bolts threw it. I had then topped it off with a 750 hp holly. I liked all of the set up on the motor but was not sissified with the air flow of the heads. I then before even going to the track purchased the new afr eliminator heads 195s that flow 288cfm plus. Went to the track and on the second day of the last test and tune of the season I clipped off a 11.243 121.995 cant believe it. I don’t even have a roll cage, and the did not say anything thank god because I do not want to install a roll cage that would give the whole car away.

New set up motor look at sheet Air Flow Research sbc 195cc heads

The car had 59,747 when I purchased it new and know only has 64,000 miles on it driven not often but you’ll see me at the car shows and sometimes at the track and maybe burnouts. I have won events at the car shows and burn outs and only test and tune at the track so far. I have a few old pics but will get some new pics as soon as I get some memory to my digital camera and video recorder. Oya once I add my new distributor this year and do a little more tuning the high 10s will be there

Josh, cage it. If you do it right, nobody will even see those bars, trust me. Mine is invisible from the side. Use a s&w 10 point with the door bars that clear the armrests, tint the back window and unless they stick there head in your good. I`ll take a side picture of mine later today. So how bout a T&T at ubly this spring?

I plan on flat track racing this year, and hitting some dunes. Still working at the same place? im enjoying being layed off just for now.

going smooth, I picked up the 8 point this spring for around 200 and just now installed the 10 point conversion, was like another 150. If you do it it, get the S&W race cars cage, fits like you want it too, perfect. I would get the door bars for the stock armrests and get the A pillar bars that go thru the dash pad. I upped the motor to a stroker and pushed the compression up a bit too..you plan on going to the track with that thing this year, I tried getting a hold of you in the fall. I`m still at the same place, how`s that 10 bolt treatin` ya ?

I plan on going to the track this year and where is the track close around me that you were telling me about? The 10 bolt is holding up good. So have you been to the track with that new stroker motor? What is your best 60 foot and quarter times?

Uhhh UBly! I thought you had been there! I think it`s not open till the last week of april. Good to hear about the 10 bolt I pounded on it with the bigblock so you should be okay for a bit.

I went last year and never did find the tune up I was still going up on the jets and ran outta time at the tracks it went 1.55 and ran a 10.62 @ 129. Over the winter though lighter rims and tires went on , lighter hood with more scoop and a bigger intake and also a larger set of headers...soooo, it will be like starting over again. Lapeer is open this coming weekend and I want to get to a track before heading to Norwalk for a track rental on the 30th of april.

That cage looks invisible in your car I see your poll is at 100% for a cage LoL!!
