ls series swap
I currently have a 91 v6 bird and I want to swap to an ls engine, I cant do the work myself so i called over to js performance and the estimate that i got would be around $10,000 for everything. I cant really afford that, so if anyone can help me out with this swap i will pay for there time. I have a budget of around 6000 for everything including parts.
Thanks

Re: ls series swap
Do you have an LSx laying around and the 6k is for mods/parts? If not i dont know where you are going to get running LSx + xmission and all supporting parts and install for 6k. It could be done but you are going to have to get real lucky buying a smashed LSx car for cheap with a good motor and xmission, then getting all the rest of the supporting stuff, headers, mounts, harness...ect..
And why would you want to swap a LSx? I have people keep telling me around here that a tbi or tune port is a WAY more powerful and faster powerplant than any LSx could ever hope to be....

as for the OP, 6k, which has to pay for everything, is going to be hard to pull off. the engine/trans (hopefully complete with harnesses, computer, and assessories) will eat most of that unless you find a screaming deal.
The best way to do this would be to find a wrecked 4th gen without engine trans damage, and buy the car and swap parts. Even then you will need other parts and then tuning and computer work afterwards. There are gauges to deal with as well as the fuel system, exhaust, ect ect. Its a lot of work, and the little stuff will nickle and dime you to death if you dont know what you are doing.
If you cant do most of the work yourself, and have to pay somebody to do it, it will never happen for 6k.
Josh at JS is a good guy and wont rip you off, and its a pretty fair price for the work.

Re: ls series swap
here is my problem, a friend of mine challenged me to a race in march 2011, she has a 350 in her 82 trans am, she knows i cant win with what i have now so i want to upgrade to beat her ***. She only has one side of her carb connected as to save gas.
Contempory corvette in bristol pa can get me and ls1 and trans for 3000, problem is i cant do the work myself to install it
