Help me choose a paint shop!
I posted this in the body section but you guys might have actually used these 2 shops because you're all from around here. SAC/East Bay/Bay Area:
I have 2 paint estimates for my 91 Z28. Please help me choose one. And I'm open to advice as well. All my ground effects, headliner, lights, hood emblum, and panels around door area have been removed already.
Miracle Paint (Dublin, CA)
-----------------
Total $3750
Includes:
Sand and re-prime whole car
Paint outside of whole car including hood, hatch, and door jambs
Color is Datona Blue. Not sure what kind of paint they use.
Flex-additive is used for bumpers.
Wet/color sand/buff is included.
Base/Clearcoat setup
5 year warranty
Align rear hatch and new fiberglass hood
Take out old phone anteana thing on roof, and weld a plate to
cover hole
Take care of some very very minor dents/scratches.
1-Day Paint & Body (SAC)
------------------------
Total $2130
Includes:
Only re-prime certain areas, but sand off all paint. (They can
re-prime whole car at additional cost)
Paint outside of whole car including hood, hatch, and door jambs
Color is Datona Blue. They use Dupont paint here.
Flex-additive is used for bumpers.
Wet/color sand/buff is included.
Base/Clearcoar setup
5 year warranty
Align rear hatch and new fiberglass hood
Take out old phone anteana thing on roof, and weld a plate to
cover hole.
Take care of some very very minor dents/scratches.
As you can see both quotes include very similar work. Maybe just because of the price of the 1-Day place (which will take 1 week), I'm concerned about the quality of their work. I saw some of their work, but still, maybe just their comparitavely low price scares me. It really shouldn't though. All other places I got quotes at were $4-5000+.
Any help would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks!!.

if your set on those two, go with the one day. if you are scared of their work? at least you have a 5 year warrenty to cover it
i went to earl schieb.
3 year warrenty and i got:
sanded down, primered, painted
a dent in the fender and other minor work.
480 bucks
cant beat that

I would say go with option #2. Your 91 primer will most likely still be in pretty good shape and will not need to be replaced completely. Plus it is way cheaper.
that is a sweet color you are getting. and pics of your car now?
traviz, I wouldnt mine seeing some pics of your paint job too

goonies. what ever u do but DO NOT GO TO EARL SHIEBS or any other cheap shop. Their the worst shop i've ever been to. I had my car painted at earl shiebs in san jose and it looks like crap. So much orange peel. Within weeks my paint started to chip. They over sprayed on my rims and my windshield. They even painted half on my chrome 3 inch tips. I had took my car back 3 times to get it repainted under warrenty and its still looks like crap. worst quality paint and prep work.
But yea option 2 sounds pretty good for the price. There a place in hayward that did my friends 59 impala that did a sweet job on it but i forgot the name of the shop. I pm u when i get the info

Thanks very much for the responses you guys. I've decided to go with the 1-Day Paint place. The only thing that's taking me a while to get my car ready is taking off the side molding. I called them and asked them if they'd do it for me.. (of course I would pay) and they said no. They don't really do any removal of anything. Well so I'm gonna do it for them. The guy there said that once you pull it off, it's very hard to put them back on and be flush because the metal strip gets bent.
Well, I'll give it my best. Damn I've been waiting years to get my car painted. Hopefully this coming Saturday I can give it in.
Do you think if I remove the molding, they will be able to get the glue that's left off. I am going to have the re-prime the whole car, so I figure they can sand it off? Any recommendations?
Thanks!
