Dyno/Performance shops around here - Nor Cal
So far I only know of a few places that are any good in Nor-Cal.
There's my own shop, which I'll shamelessly plug. Called Alex Automotive. We're in Concord, do everything from performance to maintenance. Family owned and operated. PM if you need something done and I'll quote you.
There's a place out here by Buchanan Airport that has a Mustang Dyno, and does tuning. Their site is http://www.brgracing.com/ They seem to have decent prices on their stuff, and I've heard that they're knowledgable in performance applications (I would hope so).
Any one else have a shop that they can list? Anything from performance builds to dynos.

I've been to brgracing before. Nice people - they've got a mustang dyno, and I believe are also family owned. They do not have the software for tuning thirdgens -- and by the techs own words 'I knew more about tuning these cars than he did'. But they do have a 4(5)? gas analyzer which is a plus.

The shop I go to is Advance Dyno here in fairfield / suisun. Really nice and helpful guys there also. Dynojet there. They definatley know they're stuff, but, once again, they don't have the stuff to tune our cars - but that's nothing new. I have it with me 24/7 anyway.

We went and talked to them about tuning my buddies '89 cammed IROC. They said they could do it, but they'd have to dig up the chip burning equipment and it would be around $500.
what was your impression of them? I'm thinking of having my T/A dynoed there, and in the future tuned, since they're so close to me.

Yah, good place. I think jason is the tuners name. Definately seemed to know his stuff and was the only one there.
For $500 your buddy had better get a pretty damn sweet tune with that chip, he could buy a WB02, and everything he needs to read, write and burn chips for that much.

ok guys i talked to bennie today
we should be inbusiness as soon as they get over here the tech/sales is supposed to come over and we should have everything hooked up pretty soon so we can start dyno tuning and doing baselines
we have a mustang dyno, and not to mention our gas analyzer we use for smog's
i think we are going to have to have a dyno session as soon as we get it dyno/meet woop

Hey Alex,You have any idea what they would charge to get a basline on my mustang?I would like to have a starting point before the build.I will either have a 331 with a turbo or a procharger with 20-25 psi of boost so I want to see the difference on paper too.

Yeah, good idea. It's always good to know where you started.
They charge about $125 for 3 pulls with tuning changes in between. However, if we went together / didn't need a tech / and did it by ourself it would be $75 /hr.
If you just wanted one or two pulls without tuning, I couldn't see them charging much. If you want to find out more you can call them at 707-425-DYNO(3966).

I would do either one.I would like to get a tune too but it's a speed density car so ...I'm sure they could do something. Are they open weekends?I'm off the 23rd,24th,and 25th of this month. The 24th is my sons 1st birthday so I wouldn't be able to do it then but either other day would work.Thank you for the info.

Sometimes they open on the weekends . . . but usually they're off racin' on the weekends - just depends whats going on that week.
As far as tuning goes, I have no idea how 'stangs work as far as ecm params / fuel / timing curves. But most likely you'll need to have your own editing / burning software. All they've got (like most shops) is the Dyno and a WBO2.

deezl - I do have everything we'd need to record datalogs and analyze them. But unless you have a way to program chips, know someone with a chip programmer, or otherwise have someway to re-program whats on the stock PROM theres not much we can do.
Let me ask, what mods have you done to the car that you feel it requires tuning ?

Installing a set of headers, it already has full 3" exhaust. Later plans are for a stroker + big cam.
Originally a 305 and not a 350, I would like the fuel curve adjusted a bit, tweak a few codes out like the VSS 24 etc.
That's cool that you can record data, at least we could get some info and a baseline.
Let me know if you plan on going

Nice,I'll set up a day so I can hit up one of those places.I'll be puting on a new intake soon so I might do it after that.
You guys might want to look into Rick @ Synergy Motorsports. He is in Fremont http://www.synergymotorsports.net
He has a Dyna Pack dynometer that can hold any load/rpm, very beneficial to tuning. Plus it bolts directly to your axle, removing any loss factors such as wheel spin, tire growth, etc ...
