INTRODUCING ME, and you and you and you.
Short little summary of all the NorCal guys please, as short or long as you like, but let us know a little something. I figured since I'll be actively pursuing my fbody hobby pretty aggressively, I'll probably be seeing alot of you guys whether it be on or offline. so here goes
My names Eric
I'm 22
Grew up in West Sacramento, moved all around Sac for quite awhile, and I've been here just outside of Marysville on the Sacramento side for about a year and a half.
It's cool out here as far as cars go, alot of people building nice stuff, alot of dirt biking and quad riding out here too.
But... It's boring in all other aspects.
I listen to hard rock, classic rock, gangsta rap (no, I'm not gangsta), and lyrical hiphop. I play guitar like a bat out of hell, and I've been known to get my hands dirty in hiphop myself ( www.soundclick.com/dizturbedonemusic.htm ) <-- for a couple really old clips of me playing the guitar and a couple hiphop tracks.
I've always loved thirdgen Camaro's since I was 5 and my uncle had a badass brand new GTA (was an 88 or 89 i think). I loved that GTA, but always leaned a little towards the Camaro styling (plus I'm a chevy guy, gotta have that bowtie) so I bought the first 3rd Gen I could get my hands on that met a couple requirements (lenient ones at that)
a. No major bodywork... theres better things to do
b. NO RUST WHATSOEVER. I lived in California my whole life damn it, my car should have done the same.
c. A good running, halfway reliable motor... I love the handle and feel of f-bodies, so thats where I want to start, is suspension. I don't want a fast car (eventually) that can't even handle itself.
well, its pretty hard to find a good running fbody with no major body damage, no previous, no rust, and a halfway reliable motor for under 2k.
I ended up getting a 92 RS, 3.1L 5 speed manual.
once i get a wonderbar, sfc's, stb, shocks, struts, springs, LCA's & reloc brackets, and adj. panhard bar... the v8 motor and tranny swap will begin.
There you go guys, (not so) short summary of me and my plans.

i first had an 84 v6 for my first car, it was primer, i spray bombed it blue and sold it for the same amount as i got it for with 210k on the clock and i said it was 110k. hehe, then i got a 89 RS , i flipped that off a bank upside down, then i parted it out and got my 89 iroc i currently own and dont plan to depart with, its red with tan interior, ive rpelaced all the plastics with black peices, and i still need the front seats and carpet to be totally converted. my mods are in the sig. i like racing alot street or track it doesnt matter. eric is my twin cuz our cars are so alike. same year and color, just different trim packages, and now, transmissions.

nice setup you got going on there, it should be fast once it's all together and working
i know what you're saying about your sixer, the little things might not be fast but they seem to run strong and forever with less problems.
i'm jealous of you IROC guys but hey, at least i always have the sleeper option
nice hood choice ramair, the SS hood is my favorite 3rd gen hood (by a small margin, most of the aftermarket hoods are pretty nice) and it's what I plan on putting on mine later down the line unless another one comes out that catches my eye.
keep em coming guys

I'm not doing CRAP to the motor or tranny. I'm just keeping it running for now, period. I'll play with free mods, and I kind of want to get into chip tuning before I put a V8 in, but besides that...
My plans:
Build up the suspension while I don't have to worry about motor troubles. Take advantage of gas mileage and squander money towards components. When I get to the final stage of suspension, I'll slap some 17" rims (heard they were best for handling characteristics) and some really nice tires on there.

I'm terrell. I've always liked camaros(chevy's also) I had a 69 z28 project car but thats another story. I feel in love with the thirdgen's back in 91 when the 91 Z28 came out and I seen on at a dealership I never really seen many on the street though.
fast foward to march 2000 for my 18th birthday I wanted a car so I went out looking for a camaro I came really close to buying a 78 Z28 but I passed then on mach 16, 2000 I was at mike daurghty about to buy a crate motor for my nova and the parts department was closed and I was about to leave then I seen a clean 88 camaro it was a 2.8 auto with 25,000 miles. some old lady bought it for her grand son and he didn't like it so she drove it every now and then. as I was about to sign the paper work to buy the car I changed my mind I really wonted a v8 with t-tops. I remembered seeing an Iroc on the way to the dealership so me and my mom went to the little car lot and about 45 min. later I was the proud owner of on 1986 Iroc-Z.
I really hated this car I tryed to sell it many times but every time something would go bad first was a couple bad sensors, the in june 2001 my stereo died $500 later I had a new alpine the next week my tranny died only had reverse and 1st. after 2 weeks and close to $2000 I had a re-BUILT tranny. three weeks later my motor died. after a couple months I had money to have it rebuilt in october it went into the shop. in november when it came out it had balanced 355, cam, ported heads and some other stuff. I have added some other little mods to it.
As of now(november 2004) my Iroc just sits in the garage waiting for yet another motor don't know what it will get but I will be installing it mysefl along with some other goodies.
and thats my story......well most of it

Man... No way would I be able to have a car that looks that nice just sitting in my garage...
I would put a damn lawnmower motor in it just to roll if I had to...
Turn the stereo up loud and no one would know, just act like you cruising slow to show off...

Here's my car.
I really like this picture because it hides the peeling clearcoat and the little messed up spots on my front clip
Thank *** for the crappy quality on camera phones, I've fooled many people into thinking I have a hella clean Camaro. haha

and Iono man... Maybe I will come to dyno day, just for the hell of it. Even if I don't have a reason to dyno, there's still a BBQ and beer... We'll see.
I doubt it though, I'm already dreading the drive. lol

Del, 25. One of the lone Pontiac boys in the tribe. Here’s how I got here. ..
First car ever was an ‘88 Firebird w/ 90K. Bought it myself back in 1997 for $2G’s. (haha, some of you weren’t 12 yet) Didn’t know a thing about cars, but I knew I loved that sleek body as soon as I saw it. Bought a Chilton manual, learned the basics, did a lot of the maintenance myself and had a great time and good memories with it.
Fast forward 5 years ('02) – Still had that Firebird, but spent quite a few months looking for the perfect GTA.
I knew if I was going to buy an older car I wanted one with low miles and all the options, especially 350/T-Tops/Digital dash.
Unfortunately the digital cluster stopped in 1988 and it was too hard to find a 350 w/ t-tops that year, so I bought my current ‘89 GTA w/ 45K miles (bought a digidash out of an ’88 too, been in a box ever since).
1 year later after all the bodywork/paint, rebuilt eng/tran and a few mods, I decided to sell my first Firebird for an offer I couldn’t refuse; $4700 to a chick that drove cross country to get it, was just what she was looking for.
Have an ‘89 Supra for a daily driver now to keep the GTA miles down.
Still read a lot and love to learn new things about these cars and how they work. Unfortunately I work too much to get into it as much as I did as a teen, but it allows me to spend $ to buy the parts I want and have stuff done right by people I trust with my car.
Always look forward to meeting other 3rd gen fans and sharing stories/ideas, so I’m sure you’ll see me out at future gtg’s.

I talked my brother into buying an 85 Firebird
Once he gets all the DMV sorted out he'll be driving it around and coming with me to meet's and whatnot, he'll probably come out with me next time just for the hell of it.
He just moved up to my house from Sac, and is looking for a job out here though. So he's got funding problems.
Shouldn't be too long before he finds something and gets it on the road though.

Hey guys and gals. I met some of you already. I'm Aaron for those who don't know. I'm 25. I've owned only one thirdgen, which I bought in the summer of '98. I didn't know much at all about firebirds or camaros or anything. The original color was the flame red metallic, but it was faded and peeling pretty bad. I had it repainted black in '99 or '00...I can't remember. Some of the red can still be seen especially under the hood and other places where the red was simply painted over. Someday, I'll get a more thorough paintjob done on it. In the meantime, it looks ok, as long as I wash every few days.
The Tranny and motor have been rebuilt. Motor has 40,000 on it now. I put some serious miles on it driving back and forth to school, as it was and still is my only vehicle. It has given me fits, but I don't think I could ever part with it, not after all we've been through. My latest upgrade is 4th gen gray leather seats. The carpet, headliner, dash, center consol still suck, but at least I'm comfy, now. Well, I think I've bored you all enough. Pic is in the sig.
edited to add that I've been on these boards since 10-2000. My post count doesn't show it...I guess I just read much more than I type. 56 posts in 56 months...I'm averaging 1 post per month. lol.

Nice spolier on that bird. makes it different.
The spoiler had an old school scoop style and if you look close you'll notice the fender flares as well.
Never seen those items on another 3rd gen, came with the car.
I want it back.

Yeah, that bird has some unique items on it. Probably out of some 80's catalog. Alot of that 80's "cool" stuff looked horrible, but once in awhile they did alright.

Only 80's things I've seen and don't like are louvers for the back window.
The items were really nice quality, especially the spoiler, utilizing the factory 3rd brake light built in.
Have yet to see another like it.
I did everything else to it, paint/decals/blackouts/tips.

82FirebirdTA - You sir are brilliant.
You have solved a mystery I've wondered about for years.
That ad is priceless.
I knew those parts looked way too factory to be outta nowhere.
Have you seen one before down there??
I sold it to some chick that moved to SoCal.

I doubt it's value was much more than I sold it for.
Almost 5K for a base model Firebird is incredible.
I would just want it back for the memories and the uniqueness.
