hey guys I would like to go to the track maybe sometime this summer my car has been running stronger than before, good 'ole lb9! After finally getting some parts tuned, I've definitely noticed a positive difference in the feel of the car.
Good news is I have a job to save some money for (yay!). Not sure what my plans are, but I would like to look into some performance parts, just starting with the basics. Right now I wasn't sure if i should look into a catback as I have an aftermarket muffler (dynomax), but not the full catback. The engine is stock so there's plenty of different things I could choose from!
some things i had in mind..
-slp intake runners (and airfoil?)
-hooker cat-back
-better coil? (hei system)
-polyurethane bushings/front end rebuild kit
what headers are smog legal for Ca? probably not time for headers though, just curious? Any other ideas for beginning to modifiy my engine?

Hey Robby, yeah I'm sorry we missed ya too.
The best deal on SMOG tube headers are probably the Edelbrocks, they bolt up practically stock and can be had pretty cheap.
Do a full 3" exhaust after the Y-Pipe and it will make a big difference.

catback is a must, 3" also high flow cat and headers are good any time. hooker, hedman, SLP, edelbrock all have CARB legal headers, I'd go with the hookers. airfoil is a waste of money, SLP runners aren't the best but will be great on the LB9(TPI was designed around a 305 so runners don't do much on them). also try a intake manifold. you have the incap coil so their are lots to chose from accel, MSD, jegs, hypertech, crane cam, pentronix, etc. also may want to get an ignition module. oh and with the coil make sure you check you coil to see what color wires you have (red/yellow or red/white)

Glad to hear the car is running better Robby. As others have said, my vote goes to 3" cat back with headers, good luck. Keep us updated.

ok, I'll go to the track wed(7/19) to see what I can get for a baseline run now that it's running a little better. Though I wish I could get the car to run a high 15 as is, I would be happy with a low 16, at least something better than the 16.4's I was getting before @ 83-84mph. I mean it's a stock 305 auto unknown on the on the cam/heads really, but assuming nothing more than stock specs. I was leaning towards the Hooker cat-back for first mod, or the runners, similar price, but not for sure which one is most effective right now with a stock motor.

me and travis will be up there
I'd go with the cat back and cut the airbox and slide in some K&N's(if you haven't done so already)
I think you should be in the low to mid 15's now

eric cut my airbox (thanks), and i put k/n filters in that should supply the 305 with plenty of airflow for now right? oh yeah, does the a/c delete have any affect with letting a few hp up, i did that as well.Originally posted by kairles

I meant something simple as cutiing the airbox/inserting k&ns (which you've done) and a nice full exhaust should knock off several tenths.
If you can hit a 16 flat tonight, I'm sure you can get 15.5's or better with exhaust/headers.

Damn Robby, wish I could make it out to the track with you, I want to see who is faster, some other time I guess. Good luck. Oh, I agree with the others, go with headers and cat back first, it will make the most improvment on your stock engine. Be sure and post how the track times go.

magnaflow that is a good place to start exhaust. although i dont see what the big deal is i still ahve stock exhaust
dual cats and i have decent size anyway with no crimps, so i think the only thing restrictive in my exhaust is my manifolds, and muffler..ill do my best to try and close up the shop early hasnt been happening lately been frickin drama i was there until 6 last night fixing one of our latest master tech f**ck ups damn him, hes gone by tommorrow he stinks... so ill be there around 6 how about you robby you gona be there

yes Eric I'm going, what's the ferrari, I know you really don't have an actual one working at the smog shop. At the track I hope someone can help me out, cause I can't get my hood adjusted right, so I can't open it barely, it takes forever for it to click and unlatch, crap!

My hood used to require a little shimmy everytime to pop it.
I sprayed a little WD-40 on the entire latching area and adjusted the circular black *****/bumpers in the front and mine pops without fail everytime.
okay, after going to the track w/ a few of you guys I was able to break into the 15's with a 15.9x@85.xx. Best mph was 86.1x but only a 16.01 et. Good baseline for the stock motor, now we'll see how I can improve with some exhaust work. Thanks for coming out guys, had fun!

since last time things I have changed: Accel 8mm wires, Accel cap/rotor kit/timing/tps/tv cable adjustments, a/c delete, k/n filters, dynomax muffler(not catback).
Travis' car ran high 13's @99.xx, urbanhunter(tony?) ran high 13's/low 14's i think, and that's it I think.

Amazing what having a car in good tune w/ a few adjustments can do.

Well I feel pretty confident that my runningwaytoorich is the cause of my lackluster time & hope to have it corrected before months end.
I'm sure Travis will agree that having a car outta tune sucks, especially after investing in the Stealth and not seeing a better timeslip.

ya HSR sucks.. well ya know.. spend 700 dollars on the swap and run a tenth second slower then before the swap..
thats right i couldnt muster anything better then 13.9 and i had like 9 runs in no joke. and i had to wear a helmet for the first time damn ******.. i can run 13 flat on nitrous no problem but 13.9 uh oh lets bitch traviz out and make him wear a helmet. lol
same mile per hour too..
but hey i adjusted my timing from -6 to +6 and i lost half a second but for the first time in history i hit a 100mph trap!

no way! i decided that losing torque down below was expected so thats why my times sucked off the line.. and because stock heads cant flow with the HSR.. i didnt gain enough top end to make it worthy so thats why my times are the same.
new heads and cam are coming quite soon!

Nice job on the times Robby. I want to get out there so bad and see what my car can do, work is taking up all of my time on those nights for now though, gonna be a while before I can make it out though.
Travis, sorry to hear about the dissapointing times and improvments with the hsr, that sucks man. Sounds like you just need better heads and cam though to take advantage of your hsr. Good luck, see you this week at work.

Me, vinny and 3.4 are heading back to the track next wednesday - I know I'll break high 13s now that I fixed the rev limiter problem (tranny was filled too much causing it to not shift fast enough).
