What to do?

I need to make decisions here.I have 2,000 to spend on the car do to my $4,200 tax return I can either spend it all on tires and mods, drive up to Oregon in May and paint the car myself in my father in laws shop or I could take it to somewhere like Maaco and have it painted and have enough to buy tires and that's pretty much it.If I do mods and paint later then I would go buy my tires, sfc's,lca relocators, headers and my 3.42 disc rear along with some other stuff.

go before show man, that's a lot of parts you could put on now.
it looks decent enough to get by for awhile.
is the paint oxidized and gone, or can you buff the crap out of it to bring something back?

. ..and how may i ask do you guys get so much in taxes?

H&R Block does mine. That's what 2 kids and daycare get you.I don't know for sure what kinda of paint it is.I think it's 1 stage so then I could buff it out.It just has no shine now.It looks like dark flat blue.

Oh that's right, married w/kids.
Travis on the other hand. ..hmmmm

If the paint just looks flat, but is still there, spend the $100 and have it buffed if you don't have it yourself.
Waxing won't last, it needs to go down deeper to bring it back if anything is still there.

Save the nice paint for later.
You know you'd rather hit the 14's first.

Go with the mods Steve, you already know how to paint so you might as well do it yourself anyway, save money and you can probably do a better job than macco anyway. Your car looks good enough to roll right now anyway.

I just went out and tried to rub out a little spot and the rag turned blue so it is a single stage.I will buy a buffer and try to polish it up when it stops raining. My lca's will be here wed so I am ordering my relocators too.I need the new rear end 1st though,no point in welding the relocators onto the old one.My car creaks pretty bad going over the bumps so I'll also order the Spohn sfcs.I think I'll pick up a cam and headers too. With those mods plus what the car already has I had better hit 14's!

Steve-

Be apart of the fast club and do mods now.

Then you won't risk damaging a good paint job wrenchin'

No thanks.I want power from idle,no point in that high of an rpm band if the rest of the motor can't get there too.

David I kinda like the whole green / black / grey on red job.

Looks like an IROC with a black eye.

But in all honesty it is a VERY clean car, love those "wheels" but they need billet Camaro caps.

You guys have your deductions all messed up. If you do these right the idea is that your get very little back from the fed after April. Basically it means you are letting the government hold your money (interest free!) and your regular pay checks are that much less each time.

Hell, I know tons of folks who look forward to the tax return every year as a way to py for vacations, home repairs, Third Gens, and so forth. If that works for you, that's cool. I'd personally prefer to take what I have coming to me and decide for myself how to deal with it -- like with an IRA or CD that earns me 5% or more over a year.

Back to topic and stoppingthe old man rant, I would focus the money on performance improvements and paint it myself (if I was Steve -- cuz I can do that sort of thing).

Damn bish, almost 6k back, that's awesome. Lucky you, wish I had some dependents, maybe I should have some kids, on second thought, NO WAY, lol. Spend it wisely, and pray the IRS doesn't look into you, lol. Now you had better hurry up and get that iroc running bish.

Do you think I would see more of a difference with some headers or a cam and roller rockers?

those are both SOTP difference makers.
probably more power from the cam/rr's though.
headers are a must to help breathe out though, do both!

i say do headers first, who knows the cam might not get full pottentional without the headers first.

if its one or the other i say headers first.

I would get stuff that you can use on this motor and the 350 when you do put one in. way waste mony on a cam that you more than likely, not put in the 350.

I still have plenty of miles to get out of this motor as it only has 70,000 ish on it.It's bored .030 and it almost sounds like it has a cam already but Harjeet didn't say anything about a cam.I plan on buying a 350 block and building it over the summer and dropping it in next winter.

I think I've settled on headers, sfc's and my 3.42 rear for now.Thos should make a noticable difference.I may try to pick up some ebony leather power 4th gen seats too.

my bro has a full set out of an 02 SS. i think he said he'd take $200 but i'd have to double check.

They're completely immaculate. all power options and they work perfect. The car was totalled at 21,000 miles. the seats were pretty much all that survived

Carefull man, if its an acrylic, or an acrylic-laquer, like used in the last ten years in cheap body shops, it will look great but "die out" in a short period of time. Then you will buff it again and end up with no paint on the car, trust me i know. Try the worst looking panel on your car, be sure to wax it when youre done buffing, and set it in the weather for a couple weeks. If it looks good when you wash and dry it then you are good to go!

Ok,no biggie,thanks anyway.
Well I went out to test the tps and it was only at 0.40 volts closed and 3.56 at wot,so I reset that and tested the timing also,it was @ 4* so I reset it to 8*.The tv cable was way out of spec and the tranny was shifting way early,I fixed that. The car idles way smoother and has way better response.I just jumped it up to 105 from a stop with no problem at all.It pulls pretty hard all the way through the the band.I seriously think this is a 14 second car. We'll see saturday.
