Car running great...

Got the car back from an oil change and the drive shaft swap today. Yesterday, I got a smog notification from the great state that we live in and I asked for this to be done as well.

Well, the car barely passed emissions. NO levels at 766 (Max allowable is 767), Hydrocarbons at 98 (max = 108). Still, it's a pass and I didn't have to worry about a visual. I think I'll put the base timing back to straight up Zero degrees and rely on GM's engineering for the performance of a TBI.

Anyway, the car is primed for the good weather. I'm queuing money for Terrell and the rear end/posi/brake upgrade as well as the new top and then SFC's later inthe summer.

I can't imagine what 2007 will be like compared to the earlier years: 2004: Buy and restore to driver, 2005: minor performance mods, growing performance disappointment, same love of appearance. 2007: Plain old drivin'? Engine swap? Candy paint? I swear, none of these opinions would be possible if the car didn't run great already. I love it.

Yep, she's definitely a keeper Mike.
Screamin' for some more minor mods though man.
You can do a lot without changing the drivetrain around to keep that gas mileage I know you love.
The rear is a good start, but needs some headers or something, let it breathe out!
That will only help driveability and make your ride more enjoyable.

I don't see Mike doing any engine swaps anytime soon.
If he were able to gain some ponies and make his car run better, and not lose any driveability, I think he's all over it.
What else can be done to the TBI? Besides tuning of course.

I say build a 450hp 306(.030 over 350 with a 3.00" crank) that will rev to 8 grand

hey you here about the LS9 is gonna be supercharged with 650hp it is gonna be the motor for the corvette SS . I hope they call it something else. they also have an LS8 coming out supercharged with 500hp. both are gonna be intercooled. and the low power LS? thats gonna be non-intercooled

vortec heads and raise compression add a hotcam with a big block TBI TB and a good tune should put you in the 300hp range

I saw his car when I picked up mine and I have to say,it's one of the cleanest thirdgens I've seen. There are quite a few tbi mods that you could do to up the power for a fair price.

That's been a goal of mine for a while.

Driveability is good. Driveshaft improved that a little. Something will have to be done with the tranny soon I suppose.

It neva ends!

Oh... I forgot to add: The mechanic said my cat was showing it's age and might be partially to blame for the near-fail on the smog. What a perfect excuse for 3" pipe and a high flow replacement, right?

I suppose headers whould be the thing to do along with all that.

Dangit. I'll have projects with this car for another 4 years at this rate.

hey mike, my friend hasn't checked out the rear end yet. I go bug him about it. He works over 50 hrs a week so its hard to get a hold of him. Mike so u want the 4th gen 3.42 or 3.23 if the prices are right? i call him up again. Steve so u want 3.42 instead of 3.23, cuz all he has is 3.23 posi disc. The only 3.42 he has is a 4th gen rear. BTW mike does have the cleanest convert i've ever seen on the street.

Harjeet,

I'm all but committed to Terrell for his 10 bolt, 3.23, third gen posi for $250. Looking at that price, I'm guessing that will be hard to beat. Bascially, Terrell has exactly what I want at a dayum good price. Plus, I know he's taken care of it (crossing fingers).

Steve,

Is it safe to say that if hell breaks loose and I cannot get the posi from Terrell, you'd be interested in it? I'm not backing out by any means but sh|t happens (taxes, doctor bills, whatever).

What type of drive shaft did you install? I was thinking of the carbon fiber one, was wondering if anyone has used it yet?

ive held one and it was impressively light compared to a stocker.

Also a cool thing about CF, is that if it goes it'll just whack into shards. So no catapulting if you dump it.

Anyway...

It was an aluminum driveshaft off a GTA or a 4th gen. The old one looked really brown.

A note: Don't ever drink an 'Old Fezziwig'.

That's exaclty what I got except for 100 bucks (and used). The only issue was that the aluminuminuminum wasn't polished and it wasn't new.

I see 'em on Ebay (and other places) for the same price. You in a hurry?
