Quick question

Hey fellas,
As you might no my rear end is messed up on my car, been putting off getting it fixed but in about a month i will have the money to get it done. and some other things to

i was talking to a mechanic friend of mine and he said it would be easier to buy a used rear end and swap the components into the rearend on my camaro, instead of just changing out the whole rear end...so my question is...is that true?
