New toy this week!?!?!

I' going to go look at this Formula this week. I really want a 9* formula and this is a 91, 350, t-tops. It has an oil leak at the rea of the intake but I will put a stealthram on it next week so that's no big deal. It comes with Spohn sfc's, lca relocators. All for $1,000. Wish me luck, I'm taking cash so I unless there ended up being a major problem, I'll be driving it home. He said it runs and drives great but doesn't the time for it. 135,*** miles on it.

Sounds like it's yours, 91/350/Formy is a nice platform to build off of, good luck!

Would you sell the other one and swap parts, or have a pair of 'birds?

Dunno yet, I'll look at the good and bad of both and make a decision. The sfc's and relocators aren't installed yet so I could use them on the 89.
It's pretty much a 100% on my end, going down monday for it. I can have a stealthram on it next week so it should run well.

I don't have the car yet, I'm going to look to get this week.
I told my wife she could have the 89 but I think we'll sell the 89.
After I take all the good stuff for the 91.

I saw the post where you found it on 3GO Steve - most folks seem to agree it's a good deal.

It's definitely a project car though, but for that price it's a better platform for all your goodies than the '89.

Yeah, I have alot of good parts I can throw at it. I've talked to him and he said it runs good and has been reliable for him but it does have the oil leak at the rear of the intake so I will just swap out the tpi and put the stealthram on that. It does need a deep cleaning though. My wheels would look good on it too.

Looks like a good deal. i don't know about you, but I think the late 80's Trans Am is the best looking third gen, and this is coming from a formula owner.

I'm excited for you Steve, you swap cars faster than I can blink.
I'm just glad you're staying with a 'bird and not a Mustang.
Hopefully you hold onto this one for awhile.

Looking fwd to checking it out and seeing what you can do at the track with it + HSR and all the other mods.
I know you're excited to get out of those 15's!

15's suck! I might keep the 89 but it's not looking to good. With t the new baby and no real time to work on it, it just makes more sense to get a different one. With the 89 I would have to rebuild the rearend, replace the rear brakes with newer pbr's, replace the 305 with the 350, swap in all black interior. The 91 already has all of that so it just makes more sense. I wasn't even looking for one but I saw the ad and said, what the hell. I still really like the 89, looks wise but the formula should be a little lighter without the gfx too. Like I said, I will look at the good and bad of both and make a decision whcih one to keep and which one to swap parts from.

Congrats Steve, I had called Sean about the car but he never got back to me. I'm glad it's going into good hands at least. One thing you may want to keep in mind is that this car is pretty rare, they didn't make many Formulas in 91-92 with the L98 and T-tops, it's been shown that the only ones that did have that combination also came with crosslace wheels which this car has. It's definitely legit and was a beautiful car back in the day, there are some pics floating around from a gathering with his car parked next to mine in fact. It would be very sad to see it parted out, so I hope you don't opt to do that.
----------
Oh yeah, if you want to stay with the airbag and want a steering wheel that isn't quite so destroyed, I've got a couple extra laying around.

Yeah I am 95% sure that the formula will stay and I will say goodby to the 89. Once I take all my suspension stuff off of it and return it to stock, I don't really know how much I can get out of it though. I may just keep the sportlines in it and just order a new pair for the formula. My system will come out also. If anybody has anything they want to trade for the 89 I will take offers also.

I'm meeting him at the in and out on Truxel (sp?) off of 80 between 6 and 7 tonight for the purchase. My cell is 775-790-1057

Congrats! My '91 is Medium Maui Blue Metallic 5spd 305 TPI car. Paint peeling off, as would any Van Nuys paint job!!! I'll have to post some pix of it. Got a 383 Superram T-56 set-up for it in the works. It is also pretty rough on the inside, body pretty straight. Interested in your build up, post up here! I'll do the same once mine gets rollin'. I have all the parts.

Cool thing about mine is that I got the PHS documentation for it. It was delivered to Antioch and spent its life there. Nice to have a local California car - now it is in good hands.

Man I feel like I ripped this guy off. It has great paint, rides smooth, pulls hard , has lexan t tops (will be switching to glass), new radiator, water pump, has the Spohn sfc's, lca relocating brackets, Eibach prokit, custom kick panel speakers, almost imaculate black interior, Earls steel braided brake lines, not installed and new in the box. All for $1,100 bucks, I gave him an extra 100 for meeting me half way. I love it and my wife said I could keep both but I have parking for 4 cars and I will have 5 next weekend (buying another 4runner too).

Great to hear Steve. $1,100 is fair.
I can't believe I'm going to pay $500 for a V6 with none of those options or part perks. ahaha, f'n sentimentality.

From a guy in Antioch about 1.5 years ago. I found it advertised on Craigs list. I think the guy spent a lot of $ on it trying to get it to run right. I took it to my race car sponsor CME in Vacaville and they got it running just fine. Even put 1.6rr on the little 305! Then, I saw the stroker being advertised by a fellow CMC road racer. He actually raced it in CMC for a short time when the rules were lax. The engine is actually an L98 from a 1991, my car's a '91, pretty cool! 7k of receipts from Rex Hutchinson's machine shop and 1k miles, he let it go for 1k! I could not resist! Especially when the '91 Formula has 120k on it.

1K is a steal for the red Formula above!!!!

Those pictures do not do the car justice! The paint shines and the interior is nice and black. The tires have 3500 miles on them roughly. The tops are lexan so they have the spiderwebs all through them. I left my camera at home but if I get home in the daylight I will get some pics tonight, otherwise I will post'em tomorrow.

mmm mmm.
Oh how I love Firebirds.

Looks sharp man, in & out. I'm not sure about the emblem on the rear signal though.
Get some wheels caps, clean her up and you have a hell of a deal.

The caps were stolen the day I bought it, go figure. I will buy more. I don't like the 5.7 decals over the signals either and they will come off. I'm debating on buying a decal kit for it though, I think it would look pretty good.

Sure, class it up and throw a decal kit on.
Door decals that say Formula, sail birds, etc.
You could even go old school and use the '84 cowl hood decal.

Nothing on the hood, I don't like those, maybe some 5.7's on the side ogf the scoop but nothing big. I would like the formula on the doors and birds on the sails.
