your right eventually the motor will blow, and probably a little shorter than if the nitrous were never used, but the difference is very minimal, say a stock motor goes 200,000 miles before it blows if I were to use the nitrous it would be maybe 190,000 miles, not a big difference. Think of how many miles I will be put on with nitrous use, maybe a thousand.

but I dont know everything so maybe another person who has more experience with using nitrous could chime in and post a counter argument for Steve.

You've heard of Eric's infamous "swiss cheese intake" right?

The laughing gas can be not so funny at times.

yes I know of his intake, I also know that Eric rigged up that kit and was using a manual transmission, he didn't have a RPM switch or something causing the nitrous back fire.

My 60' times seem to be horribble, I got a couple 2.2 a couple 2.1 and a couple 2.0, is that about right? should they be better.
2.2 shows a slight need for improvement, I'm guessing that was with spray though.
2.1-2.0 is average until you get serious about suspension/tires.

It's always fun to see somebody their first few times down the track.
You can always tell when they are hooked and it sounds like you are Cam.
You're already showing the crankster signs of what can I add next to get a better time.

Keep in mind you can get better times with more seat time and knowing your MPH will show you exactly what the potential of the car is.

I am never going to blow a motor at 17 or 18 or 19 or ever, unless I want to.

And the earliest I sprayed last night was it mid second gear, Armondo kept telling me to do it in first but I never got the chance. Next time with the bottle heater and the spraying in first, I'll should be running 12.5.

You spray the shiet outta that baby and reach for the stars, haha.
'mando has been sprayin' awhile, I'm sure his advice is good.

yeah, his setup is pretty nice too.

but if he's running the same setup as you (i.e. Gen I with heads cam and bolt ons, and same tranny) and he's running a 13.0 and 13.1 NA and your only running a 13.5 and 13.7 NA, can you not drive for shiet or does the weight of his car really give him half a second, or what am I missing in difference between your two setups?

Funny youngster, funny, just wait.

I see every car as a thumbprint, no 2 are going to be alike.
Similar mods don't always show the same results.

The MPH 9 out of 10 times will give you the best idea of what power you are making, given you have a decent 60'.

My GTA for example, only averaged a 100-101mph last year when I net 13.5-13.7.
Using these numbers, along with my estimated weight, I can calculate my approximate power level, how much of it I'm utilizing and see the potential best 1/4.
My numbers show I was producing ~300 flywheel hp, utilizing ~290, and the max ideal I could obtain is a 13.3-4ish. Not too far off.

This of course does not explain why it's not achieving a higher power level (MPH), which could have been for many given reasons, or just the fact it's not a factory freak.
Could've been the faulty AFPR we discovered a few months ago, could be the weight, or whatever other X reason.

Your car for example, if pulling ~108mph, already has the potential for 12.5s, but being your first time out and still learning, you as you so eloquently put it, can not drive for shiet yet.

Point being, when I am pulling 108+mphs, I sure as hell won't be in the 13's.

Make sense?

Eh, his times are the average for an l98 so I'm not impressed. I would never use N20, not knocking it, it's just not my thing. I would rather have the same amount of power on tap whenever I wanted. Having to keep refilling the bottle. In the long run, for the cost of the kit and how much it's refilled you could have done heads and cam and make more power.

well this is where it gets tricky n20 is fun as we all know

but n20 should not be your main power adder

i asked armando how much he fills his bottle

he says 1 to 2x a week time for him to save up and buy a super charger.... 40 to 80 a week that will add up fast

Your both right you do keep spending on it in the long run and if you fill twice a week then you'll be spending a shiet load.

But my perspective is that for me, with my setup, I can use this power at any time that I want, just pull up to the light, open, purge, and bam 150 hp (for the most part), and I were to not use the spray for a year, whenever I want to I just fill up the bottle and go. This way I have alot streetable car thats a reliable daily driver that will get better gas mileage than what ever cam and head package or blower you are running and still smog legal etc.. (not to mention that it will be better on long distance trips if needed)

And I also dont believe going over a 200 shot for nitrous ever, just becuase it will waste so much from any bottle that you will have to fill it up all the time.

In the future I will make a nice engine and slap in an in car adjustable and progressable shot of nitrous up to a max of 250 and mostly run a 150.

So as Del so eloquently put it "I cant drive for shiet", what do I need to improve on besides spraying sooner (which was on purpose)?

I think you need to install that shift kit, a higher stall converter, and some traction aids to lower the 60 ft.

Hey Bully dawg, I would like to race you some time on a wednesday night at the local drags, maybe we could put some money on it?

I think your sig shows your combo (or a least your previous one), and sorry about the last post.

Why are you being such a **** to Bullydawg, I didn't read anything that was offensive. By the looks of it Cameron, I think his Formula would walk your stock gta. Doesn't matter how he got it, he has it, and he loves it. Stop thinking that your car is the fastest out there. I know this sounds rude and it's not meant to be but lay off.

Sorry, I just read my last post and was just trying to state my opinion. I did jump on the fact that he said he would be NA in the twelves at 16, which I dont think he will be. None the less I sounded like an A$$.

And I know my car is faster (by no means the fastest out there), but I should not have mentioned what I did.

Anyways, lets race some wednesday at the drags, Porky can film it, and post up who one.

Sure. I'll race you, I won't put any money on it though. I still need to do some work to it. I need to get a new oil pan gasket, a good prom burned, seal the super ram, and replace the vacumn lines before I race anyone. I am also pretty sure I will be in the 12's. I also have some mods that aren't in my sig.

Thats cool, and smart.

I have to put on a thing or two as well. Maybe we could run some time in late march, just hit me up when you go.

And maybe we could put say $50 on it just for fun? (it doesn't really matter if you dont want its cool)

I don't see a problem with you hitting 12's if you can drive it well and it's running at it's best.
Cameron, why don't you install the shift kit in your car? I think it would help you.

Personally I dont think that you can hit 12's. But remember I am only 17 so its not like I know everything about cars, and in my opinion your car might have the potential to hit 12's, but your still going to need work done to it and then learn how to drive it. As for myself, everyone says I should be hitting 12's with my 150 shot, but I also had no psi in my bottle (didn't think that it would be so cold outside) and I did not spray until late second (thought that I would never get enough traction), so I learned that 1) psi for my bottle is very key, and 2) I need to spray earlier. It just takes time.

And Steve, I was considering putting in the shift kit but then Bennie's shop closed with out any explaination (WTF?) and he was probably the cheapest place in town to do it, I called up 2 other places and they wanted $350 to $375 for just labor . So instead of doing it I am trying to sell it, I know it would help but why do you think it would help my 60' times, it seems like you shift to second at past the 60' mark? but I dont know for sure.

I didn't say it would help the 60ft. Just help lower the et. The converter will help lower the 60 ft. a bit.

I took this as that all of these would help the 60'.

Do you know how much it would cost to intstall a TC, and how much it is for say a 2200?

I wish you luck, IF you can do it ill do the lil bowing thing for ya too if you feel left out , thing is he HAS run 13.1...you have only dreamed about running 12s. Make it happen

If y'all don't know my motto by now, now you do.

"Don't talk about it, be about it"

There's nothing wrong with setting goals and making guesses, but it's another thing to be so sure of a setup you've had 0 seat time in as Jesse said.
Be prepared to back up your statements and/or deal with dissapointment if things don't go your way.

That being said, I'm sure Bully's setup is going to be a strong runner as it was his dad's for a long time and most of the work was done well I'll bet.
I've also said before in here that Cameron already has the power potential for high 12's w/out having to do a thing.
He just needs more practice to grab a couple more tenths.

Let's keep it decent in here folks.

So here is my .

First off I am not trying to sound like an a$$ or sound cocky. Just giving my opinion.

For starters any car the runs 12's is fast for a street car. Weather you bbuilt it or bought it it is still fast. With modern tech yes cars goes faster these days. I remember when I was in high school it you had a real 12 second car and went out racing it was very un-likely that you would be beat. Nos was very rare then and if a guy had it he usually was just out a couple of weekend and then gone for a while as his motor probably blew up again.

Today you can put on a power adder and be able to run 12 or 11's pretty easy. It cost a lot less money and the engine is usually pretty sound and you can also get lots of miles on it.

When I was a mechanic in 93 I had a smog legal combo that I would due to new LT1's that would run 12.50 and still be daily driver. No special gas, still have the cat and get 18 mpg. Not bad for moder performance.

I have a lot more resoect for a car that rns fast on the "motor" rather then a power adder. They both are fast just the NA motor gets my respect.

I have built cars with every power adder available. NOS, Supercharger, Turbo, and Twin Turbos. They are all driveable.

It is easy to bolt on a power adder and be fast. It take a lot of work to build a combo to make a good NA motor fast.

I had built a 327 Ford motor for a 64 AC Cobra (yes a real Cobra). It made 496 hp on pump gas and 798 on spray. It was a solid 9 second car on spary and 11.20's just on the motor. What my point it is was fast either way.

So my point is if someone is running in the 12's or faster. How ever they do it is it is a fast street car. Lets just be happy it is not some rice burner!

Who cares what you have more respect for, at the end of the day the car out front wins. Sure I get what you're saying but nobody remembers 2nd place. There's little **** that a lot of people don't even think about that doesn't impress me either. For example, I think big tire cars are g*y and you'll never see more than a 10.5" tire on any car I own. I do NOT think a radial is a handicap now adays, so I donno why people are impressed when they go fast...isn't everybody and their mom running 7s on a radial and you want space? Race gas only motors are gay (IE you can't fill up at local gas stations however a 2ndary cell is fine if you wanna squeeze). In all honesty, and I'm a super hipocrite with this one, i don't like trailered cars if I could find a way to route true duals far enough to the rear of my car (so it would be quiet, ive done the dump under the x member w/ 2 muffler thing and it's still too loud not to get pulled over) with out having any ground clearance issues id seriouslly drive it on the street.

The point im trying to make is everybody is or is not impressed by something or another...he'll i just think some stuff is down right stupid, like FWD "performance" cars. However at the end of the day that stuff is personal preference while winning is not. End rant on being annoyed at people bashing forced induction. AND i own an all motor pump gas car for those who think I have some personal issue with it

So I found out yesterday that my tranny mounts center bolt is stipped which my dad didn't tell me about when he sold me the car. So I am going to need to fix that and get my car running good. I am not saying I have the fastest car because I don't. I think it would be fun to hang out with you guys at the track. The next big gtg in Sac, I will most likely come. I am not trying to make people angry or frustrated. So calm down. I have quite a bit of work to do before I can really see what my car is able to do.

lol, I think it is all good. I like the all motor because if I ever need power I can put the pedal to the metal and there it is! No need to fill the bottle!

My last point to make is that the bottle is just like the gas you put in your car, you want to go fast you got to waste gas, I just fill two different kinds of gas .

I get the "bottles are for Babies", but WTF is the flame suit thing?
