Iroc parking delimma

For those of you that know my best friend, Will, my iroc has been stored at his house for over a year now since I started this project, well today he got a letter in the mail from the county of sacramento that a complaint was filed about the "storage of inoperable and/or unregistered vehicles". and I have 15 days from date of letter to fix this issue, the date of the letter is 12/13 so that gives me till the 28th this month. The car has current registration, so in order to fix this either I remove the car from the property or seclude it. Meaning that Will and I tear down his fence next to his house and push the car to the side of his house and build a gate for access. Of coarse that gives us not much time to do it.
Has anyone here delt with anything like this before? There are tons of fines involved if this is not remedied it looks like.
Or does anyone have any other suggestions?
I can post more details from the letter if it helps at all. This really sucks though, I just got my chemotherapy done again and I'm gonna be sick for the most of another week and it will be hard for me to get this taken care of.
I am going to call the county code enforcement tomrrow and see what my options are, perhaps a permit or something, the car can be running in february if absolutely necessary.

Re: Iroc parking delimma

That sucks, I had a similar situation awhile back with my 84. It wasn't running or registered and the guy from the city said it had to be registered or moved outta sight of any surrounding houses. I'm surprixed that they're saying to move it when it's registered. Do you have the plates with tags on it?

I would let you keep it here but that would be a pain for you to work on.

Re: Iroc parking delimma

Where is it at exactly, is it inside the garage? Registered or not as long as in the garaged, it should not matter.

"storage of inoperable and/or unregistered vehicles"

If it is operable and registered then I don't see how they can do this. Is the car in "pieces" or could you jump in it and drive it away?

Its not garaged, its in his driveway to the side of his garage.

That's the problem, the engine is not in the car, its sitting in the garage, not quite finished.

Re: Iroc parking delimma

hypothetical...put a 4sale sign in it...that shouldn't be considered illegal should it...or would you still have to move it by the date. I would call them, if they say that it gives you like 30 days to get it outta there...then you can put the sign in the window saying 4 sale, and when they ask, either make it sound bad or put a rediculous price on it that noone would want it...and that might give you a little more time to tinker with the fence. just a weird thought. Probably stupid, but if it worked it might get you more time.

Re: Iroc parking delimma

You could also try to reason with them and explain your situation. Tell them you blew the motor and was in the process of putting a new one in when you got sick. Bring in your registration and insurance(if you have it insured) and let them know that if your intent was to let this car sit around you wouldn't have paid to keep it insured or registered. Tell them that lately with "chemotherapy" you have been too sick and too tired to get the car back together. Go in with some proof of the "chemotherapy" and tell them that since you recieved the letter you hired a friend to complete the job for you. I would think they would understand and give you some more time to get things squared away. Or you could move to CT. You wouldn't believe some of the garbage people are allowed to have in thier front yard and nobody bothers them. Anway I don't know your exact situation but I hope everything is going alright for you and i hope you feel better.

...Also find out who filed the complaint. I don't know Cali's law's but i would assume a nieghbor complaint started all of this. I would go over there and give him/her a big sob story. Something like: The car was givin to you by *insert deceased relative* and has alot of centimental value. You have to replace the motor and have been to sick to do it lately. Now they want to fine you and remove the car and you don't know what to do." If they have any heart what so ever they will try to help you resolve this with the state.

...jut wondering. how does it look from the outside? is in in good shape or does it look like a project car.

Re: Iroc parking delimma

Your county must be different out there because I've never been hassled out here for cars on my property, and I've had worse looking ones outside.

I'd take scribbles up on the gate, awesome of him to offer that, or maybe Big Will would be cool with you moving the car in the garage for a few weeks to escape Johnny Law, then it can go back outside.

If you don't mind me adding my , that's exactly right.

Cities and counties don't drive around looking for violations. The only way they'd have learned of your situation would've been because one of Will's neighbors filed a complaint. So apparently, he, or the two of you, have PO'd someone around there.

So since your car is legally registered, perhaps if you were to meet with the code enforcement officer who sent you the notice, you might be able to find a sensible way to make this go away.
