Firebird update

Well we finally found out what was causing the heavy misfire/stumble on the Firebird.
We're running a MSD 7al2 or something like that, anyway that box has "pills" that need to be plugged in even if you're not using the retard features of the box, so we plugged in "zero" pills & re-checked the timing and it was at 63 degrees.

Now the timing is set to 36, the box is "zero'd" out and we have an chassis dyno appt this Friday.

Theres a points race at Sac Raceway on Sunday so I'm hoping that with our "old tune" (11.40 @ 130 mph)the time gets into the 10's and the MPH doesnt change.

Well the mystery was solved when the directions were re-read, but it took 4 people and too many hours to "solve the mystery".

As far as dyno results go, we only produced a best of 422hp, but the results showed we either have a slipping trans, or a way too sloppy converter.
Since the trans comes apart to install the transbrake, we should be able to see if there's a problem with the friction plates, or if the converter might have too much slippage.

The results weren't near what I expected, but if you think your ThirdGen is all that....dyno it. You'll be surprised too.

Re: Firebird update

Cool, one mystery at a time.
Dyno #'s are almost always less than expected when it's your first time. It's best used as a tool IMO.

Re: Firebird update

Well I'd say there are a lot of hobbyists that dyno just to "know" the #'s (bragging rights maybe?) and are not interested in tuning, or racing at all. That's fine, but for me I'd like to see improvements made from mods and to get ideas on possible issues.

Re: Firebird update

Well I ran it today and went thru tech and tech is more strict today than any other time I've been here.
An NHRA official was here today, so that may had something to do with it, but when I went to get tech'd, I had to explain how my Fuel Injection worked & had to show them I didnt have Thottle by Wire, data logging was questionable but he couldnt tell me how my system worked, so he let me go thru in the Pro Lane, (which is no electronics, No2, or delay box). Anyway I red-lit my 1st round so it wanst a big deal.
