Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

Tim did a 2.2 60' 13.9 e.t. 102 MPH in his 01 trans am not bad
lol, but what was the worst? 2.4 60' and a 14.3?? Aren't ya hoping for a 13.9 in your 86 Tim??

That's why I never bothered to race my stockish 4th gens. ..More fun for street driving unless you mod them for the track.

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

I picked up a posi rear end (3:23 gears) w/ disc brakes from a 90 IROC for a swap into my 92 Z28 this winter.
I pulled off the brakes and starting to tear them down for powder coat and rebuild. I've already order the pads and drilled / slotted rotors to match the LS1 rotors I have in the front.
I'm also cleaning up the differential to paint, install new axles & bearings and possibly change the gears to 3:42.
Right now I'm looking to order suspension parts (LCA's, Panhard Bar, Torque Arm, Springs, Sway Bar Tie ends / Bushings) but still undecided on the mfg. I keep going back and forth between Sphon and BMR.
If all goes as planned, everything will be rebuilt and I'll start the install over the Christmas holidays when the weather is too nasty to take out the vert.

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

Del, status update for the Silver Bullet please...
Nothing amazing to report. Should be on the road this month. I think I found a decent paint/body shop to invest in this winter too. Hoping for a new and improved GTA in spring 2012.

I say we plan one last track/BBQ day November sometime.
There are 2 final grudge nights in October. I think that would be ideal -15/29.

Who did you find? I have 3 that I am choosing between. All of which I have known for years and will give me a great deal and quality work. If the place you are considering doesn't have you 100% convinced, shoot me a pm. One guy may actually discount us more if we do it together.

How much are you paying for a new paint job, my car really needs one so maybe I can start saving up to get a new paint job on my car. I also need some new weather stripping and my car would look pretty nice on the outside.

If all works out I'd like to just do a BBQ at my house and then drive over to the track.

We'll definitely compare notes when that time comes John. I've got a list of 8-10 independent and franchise shops I've compiled over the past few years that I will get an estimate, or feel them out first before deciding. I'll be aiming for the 3K range most likely. Have some minor body work too + new spoiler, door hinges, air dam, emblems, etc.

Might be awhile for that after what I saw last time, hahaha

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

I've spent my free time this summer putting back my interior. Last year, it was gutted, sanded, primed, painted and sound deadened. This year, all the parts were either refurbished or replaced with brand new parts. I need to update the album since the most progress was done in August but if you are interested in seeing what I have done, my photo album is below. (Note that due to TGO's program, I can't rearrange my album photos. Therefore, photos will be from most recent to oldest).

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

Im currently working on my third 3rd gen camaro. Went for a hardtop 89 Rs, after having a headache with the t-top. Original motor locked up which was a 305 TBI. I bought a 305 TBI Motor of off a 93 Caprice for $300. Ripped it apart and cleaned it. Changed the oil screen, and pump. Changed the gaskets. Changed the heads, Painted some parts for show. Changed all the sensors to the motor. Flushed the trans, changed the filter, and gasket on that. Changed the mounts to both the engine and the trans. Changed the starter, battery, and alternator. Installed a 93 caprice air filter. I just want to get it on the road.
The next thing i want to do is work on the interior, change the seats... Fabricate a box with compartments where the back seat goes... level enough to look factory... give it a sport coupe look. I also want to change it to posi. Then repaint black and repaint the rims black. I think thats all. Buy another third gen camaro and make that my speed project.

Start saving... I have a buddy jus south of Auburn who owns his own custom shop, been slanging paint since.he was.12. He is my number 1 option right now. I have another guy in the South Sac area who has been at it since he was 15. We grew up together and he painted.for a large number of Lowrider guys both here and in Florida. I trust both 100% and kno.they will stand by there work. Get your paper together and we will go.visit them.

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

just got my 1st z28 last month, 84 lg4. i thought it was the h.o. but oh well. its in decent shape and its my 1st car worth fixing up. why does everyone keep telling me to get a ****** and buy some van halen t's? anyway, i am trying to learn all i can and this sight is my main source of info other than a few peeps right now. besides a little body work and repaint/ undercoating i want to ultimately come up with the best combo of fast/efficient as i possibly can. ive heard that sticking with the 305 will ultimately give me better mpg, but have also heard 45 cubes wont make that much difference mpg wise. i guess 1st step is exhaust since i dont have one. sorry too many choices i dont know where to begin. cams, heads, headers, decent exhaust. probably just headers and exhaust and then in another 10 yrs something else when i finally have money again! ha.

I'd hate to disappoint!

well in my opinion mustangs are worthless But the owner doesn't even know what year his car is? he probably never took care of it. did maintenance and all that stuff. it's probably more of a basket case than your realize. But if it is something you really want, i'd offer him less than the 1k, like 600. and see what he says.

Why do you feel mustangs are worthless?

It's in good shape inside & out , no dents or rips inside. I hope the engines in good shape haha. I'm going to offer him 800

Because they're butt ugly. And its pathetic that ford ever thought it was a good idea to build a mustang on a pinto or escort chassis. But to each their own. Not my money.
