Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

I parked my Bird away for the winter now. Got the dash all ripped apart. Going to put all LED lights inside and out. And trying to find some custom gauge overlays. I can't afford real gauges! ha. and a new steering wheel. I love that '60s Muscle car look so I want to go with the BIG wood steering wheel kind of thing and vintage looking gauges.
What do you think about that? Good? Bad?
Got a new door for my driver side, the last week or so the previous owner had it, deer ran head on into it. So I have to get paint and switch the door over, also going to put a rebuild kit in the engine. Doesn't start right, bad oil leak. I hope I don't have to pull out the entire motor..
And just alot of little minor things that need fixed up.
I loved driving it over the summer, lots of rubber necking. ha, but with that caved in Drivers door it was like a big ZIT ON YOUR FOREHEAD, that everyone stares at!

well a 91 bird is 20 years old...i guess it is approaching that vintage status....not really my cup of tea on these cars...but it is your car so you do as you please and love it!

Technically it is 'vintage' now, well classic. I could never afford the '68-'70 Dodge Charger I've always wanted, so I'll do something with this. I've never done so much work on a car before and actually enjoyed it, it's rather fun. It's especially fun to watch it come together when you actually like the car

Well next for my IROC is new brakes (upgrading to cross drilled and slotted front and rear with some nice pads) and then onto having new headers and exhaust system installed.

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

Haven't done a darn thing with the IROC lately.

Bought it as this three years ago.

Started tearing it down in late 2009.

Almost completely torn down now.

Engine apart, it's a good looking 4 bolt block, so a forged 383 build will come one of these years.

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

Been way more focused on this one.

T56 swapped in back in March.

Vortech V1 S-trim picked up in May.

And just recently (Few weeks ago) put out over $500 on Borla Stingers.

Gonna save for another daily driver eventually, then get into more serious work on the two. Built engines for both, already got the supercharger for the Mustang, IROC could use a stout 700R4 and a turbo or two.

Let's do.that.
Do either of them do inexpensive "driver quality" repaints? By that I mean something resembling factory finish quality. Somewhere in-between the knucklehead who airsands waves through the paint and into the primer, and a show quality $$$$ job.

that's a good question. that's one of the reason's why I have not thought about repainting mine..well I thought about it. but havnt saved up for it. because right now it is my daily and it'd be hard to put a 5k paint job on it to be weathered constantly

Yeah, my buddy in Newcastle (east of roseville/rockin, but just west of auburn) does everything from budget re-sprays to all out show jobs. His budget sprays are remarkable. I will check on his avg price range for that type of work and report back. How much body work needs to be done for ur rides?

I have two small door dings, one small paintbubble (I just scratched off the paint, the metal underneath looks ok, not rust all the way through), spoiler cracking and all the paint coming off it, and overall paint is pitting. No crash damage, no rust through etc.
Want a red to a darker red paint change, so door jams etc need painted.
Looking for a budget driver quality paint job. To me that means basic surface prep, sanding (not stripped to metal of course), and no runs or major orange peel. Like what you see when you take your car to a decent body shop and they fix crash damage...looks original when it's done. A general idea of cost would help me and others who are also needing paint work.

well given the fact that I personally will not be painting.your car, I cannot give you a figure and put a guarantee on it. My boy will start an entire car at 2k and damage that has to be repaired is added after he visually assesses the car. I just had a friend go to him for collision work on his front bumper, hood and both fenders. Although it was paid for by insurance, the car looks just as immaculate as factory or better. Customer has a renewed love for his car again and won't stop takin pics of it. Like I said, if u would like to at least talk to him, let's go visit him. Never hurts to talk.

Thanks, I was hoping to hear he was turning them out at $1k apiece or something.
I guess I need to put my new compressor, spraygun, two gal of paint and supplies along with the how to paint books to work
Might look like "some dude did it in his driveway", but that's only because some dude did it in his driveway

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

I think only way to get a paint job for under 1k is to do the whole earl scheib, maaco, miracle way. fight with them. and deffinately dont take the car the 1st time they call and tell you that you are done. go through and point out all the imperfections, then they will strip off the clear and put more layers of paint on. then if the clear looks decent, at least you'll have a couple layers of paint under there. haha.

I just saw the title and the first sentence that apears when you drag your curser over it and I thought .
But I agree . And to help that, I should mention that I got new rear tires today. Nitto NT555 285/40-17s. They look sick! They are the same ones Jupiter has on his '82 T/A 383.

Im changing my spark plugs, ac delco rapidfires foul to easy. back to standard plugs!

oh and im going to change my fuel pump, I now have too much fuel, which is making my pressure too inconsistent and overpowering my return system. therefore backing pressure up and causing too much crap. damn i hate fuel injection!

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

I was going to replace the bushings, but while up under the car, I decided to clean up the underside and put on an attractive and durable undercoat. I just started this past weekend and man, what a dirty job!! This is gonna take a few Saturdays! I am using a Matco scraper, a rotary wire brush in a powerdrill, a hand brush, and sandpaper!!! I must say though, it will be worth it to know the underside is as clean and sharp as the top side.

Re: What kind of project you got going on with your third gen right now?

I have too much to list going on with my project right now but I am currently taking the differential out of a camaro to put into a GTA body which I am selling. Than I am putting the GTA differential into my camaro, at that time I will Start the rebuild with a hopefully turbo'd 305 just to see how much power I can make. And of course the engine is going through the works at dependable.
