Stoopit CL!!

Hey guys I've just gotten a job and am seriously saving up for a daily driver maro cause my Camry is breaking down slowly and I don't wanna put anymore money into it.

All the ones on CL are running at 2.5k-10k! What happened to all the decent looking ones for <1500???

Wish me luck lol.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Patience. Dont rush the buy. Something will come up at that you want. You may have to drive a few hours to get it. Keep an eye on the craiglist thread here in the Nor cal section (its a sticky thread up top). A coupe of us update that from time to time with parts and cars for sale in our area.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Keep saving and def exercise patience. It will be worth it in the long run. If on Craigslist, don't be afraid to look as far as fresno and reno. As Undercover said, we post CL adds on our board regularly to help out fellow members. What are u lookin for? It will help us help u find the car ur lookin for.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

I'm looking for a basic daily driver. I would like to get a manual and learn to drive it (i have trouble getting into first sometimes and stall on hills once in a while), but I don't want to mess up the transmission of my first third gen lol.

I'd probably like a tbi Iroc for the mileage, but i'm open to all the third gen camaros except the berlinetta. I just can't get past those darn holes lol. I'd like to build it into a looker. Mirror finished black and probably 18" chrome irocs or get some nice corvette rims or something. I like the 5 spoke inverted look.

I have to have this car. When I was a kid, I went fishing and saw this beat up iroc on the way back. It was a sunburned matte blackish gray and I fell in love with it in stock form. I saw that it was an RS+ and that's it. I knew nothing about cars, so i went online and searched forever. Years later I saw one parked near the laundry mat and ran over (forgetting to put detergent into the wash) and saw that it was a camaro. Ever since I was 15 ish (21 now) I've been looking into this car, but just recently started learning about the mechanics. So here I am with a part time job looking for my first ever dream car.

Why did I write a backstory? I don't know, I think I had to remind myself how much i wanted it.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Good story. Nothing wrong with a lil story. We all have them. So in essence, u are looking for a V8, tbi, 5sp car. U would like it to be black, or at least paint it black, and u would like a clean 5 star type wheel to finish it off. Doesn't sound out of reach at all. Keep your eyes open.. they pop up a lot.

Look dude, it all depends on how much work you want to put into it. These cars are just collections of widely available parts. The last Camaro I bought I paid $680 for and drove it home. Don't get to hung up on wanting one option or another, just buy a clean shell, the rest of it can be built.

Too true.

That's all I really want to start me off. A good body and decent mileage.

No I do not mind a TPI at all. What ever it is, I just hope it works haha. Yes when I was a kid I thought it was RS + lol. I mean I didn't know Chevy made good cars when i was that young haha!

Oh yeah rebuilding might be a problem for me. I'd have to do it in the middle of the street pretty much. I live in Oakland so I dont trust leaving my precious third gen busted and naked out in the street when I'm trying to revamp something lol. Someones gonna walk by steal my parts and I'm not gonna be there to shank them!

Re: Stoopit CL!!

thats why its better to spend a little more for a car you can drive then spend less for something you need to rebuild. figure out whats most imporant to you. a clean body but needs interior, or runs great but the body is a lil bruised...etc.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Did you find one yet? I learned the hard way by buying a 83 Berlinetta, but it had a 350 carb swap. I've always been known to get the wallet out on a moments notice when something makes my socks go up and down. I spent $1000 for a poorly repainted car without interior door panels, afro sheen all over the drivers head rest and some go-fast parts that I couldn't smog, thus couldn't register, thus couldn't drive. After learning my lesson I searched for 5 months and found a clean RS with a 350 swap done the right way and it only had a faded fender and needed a new cat. Now I'm slowly making it mine with a 4in cowl, Z poiler swap in the works, tubular LCAs, LCA relocations, SFCs, and AR torque thrusts. Now the Berlinetta is my parts car and I'm slowly swapping over all the go-fast parts

Re: Stoopit CL!!

haha. I'd love some afro sheen! it'd get me some street cred. Lol. No I'm still saving up for insurance that I have enough for a decent 3G + insurance + Fixes and other expenses. I have a small list of mods i'd like to do in the long run.

Head lamp mods for sure. Not sure which one. I was thinking of possibly finding some two way light switches/bulbs so i could rewire the headlamps to have 2 setting for low/high beam. Because i don't like the way the headlamps only light two at a time instead of four. Maybe just a simple replacement for some LED's.

Cluster Replacement. Something classy and modern + LED lighting.

Paint job. Who knows what I'll decide on that far into the future lol.

tail light mods. Maybe.

fog/daylights to LED.

18in Iroc rims. Maybe blacked out, depending on paint job.

shiny disco ball. (joke)

Maybe replace the console if needed.

Oh and a hot girlfriend to add to the passenger seat.

I'd like to make a zoomer instead of a groomer, but I know I won't have the funds for a few years. Groomer sounds like fun. It'd give me a chance to work on my basic tune up and electrical skills as well.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Yeah these car's are really constrained by the smog era. I could deffinately see someone making it a shower and no a go'er. But some poeple do both which is great! but again find the car that is closest to what you want

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Man i've seen some decent ones, but they were all ttops. I'm really looking for a hardtop (for the sexy fastback look) or the convertible (for the sexy topless look)

I still need to take care of expenses around the house, so i guess its good my dream car hasn't popped up yet. I'd rather wait for it than miss it altogether.

Its not quite something that you should be the one deciding, but you are correct that half of them can't spell lol.

Nice cars! I'd want a close look at the z28, but the convert is kind of perfectly what i want. All its missing is 18in chromes and a hot girlfriend. and a few thousand dollars off asking price of course.

Someone buy it for me and i'll pay you back in installments haha. Its perfect! White, clean body, cheap, hard top, non berlinetta, RUNS!!! lmao

I'm getting too excited. I have no money in savings and I just started my job...

It just sounds too similar for the car i was waiting for. The only difference is that its White not black and its automatic. Both of which don't matter as much to me as it being running and clean exterior. The v6 is just a bonus since I want to use it as my daily driver.

AHH SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!! I haveto work at 3:30-10 tonight. Someone just go buy it for me and surprise me. Say merry xmas. lol.

You guys are right. I did some research and it does have a salvage title. You would think a V8 kills more gas no? I guess it depends on how heavy the driver's foot is.

I guess I'll just wait for my black hardtop 350 with a T-5.

Re: Stoopit CL!!

the difference in gas is negligible. The TBI 305's stock can get close to 30 MPH if driven right. The v6's dont even do that..The TPI cars can pull in 20 or so. The v6's dont get that great, dont have no power, and dont have a v8 sound

Red interior kills it for me....would not be able to take it...why did they not realize back then its easier and cheaper to make less interior color options...black, grey, tan that is it!

im so tried of my 87 gta its not even funny, very decent paint it was repainted someone keyed it though its mostly gonna be buffed out before you pick it up, rebuilt transmission not many miles on that. perfect center console and dash pad.

comes with a brand new engine and wire harness you install, still runs and drives cracked head or warped head and some of the connectors on the harness are broken so bought a new one.

$2500

Re: Stoopit CL!!

Quick Questions: Brainstorming

i'd like to do a halo projector headlights mod on the camaro. I found the HID lights that can go into thirdgens normally, but no halo projector headlights. What lights should i use for such a mod? I don't want some cheap square ones. I'd like the full big round halo headlights likeJust that x2 and in blue. So it would 4 halo lights, two on each side in blue. With HID hopefully in the middle for high beams. I'm guessing this is an expensive mod, but asking you guys would give me a rough estimate on how much i need and if its possible.

Nevermind. Here's someone on this forum who did a photoshop of what i wanted. But i'd like the HID version. Has anyone seen such a mod yet?

Can i fit these wheels on a thirdgen? I'm still pretty new to the car scene i guess, but I'd just like some quick advice on my questions. Thank you guys!
