Something minor but important broke today.

The stupid little usb port on my holley ecu broke. To put it in detail, the little plastic mold that supports the four copper pins let loose last time I had my usb cable plugged in, and that left the pins bare. I did not notice this till I tried to plug in my usb cable today and realized I smashed the pins, with one of them breaking. Holley email support says;
quote "Not good! Ecu will have to be replaced or if you are not needing a lot of adjustments. You can purchase the hand held can bus controller. Which programs through the can bus wires. Sales # 553-104.
Replacement ECU # is 554-113"

Thanks Holley...

Re: Something minor but important broke today.

So are you saying there is no warranty and you have to either buy a new $1000ish ECU, or a new $200 controller?

If the roll cage doesn't fix it, just throw some more meth at it!

Re: Something minor but important broke today.

yes the warranty says 90 days.. i bought it octoberish last year.
The controller doesnt even offer all the fine tuning options I require such as setting up switches for my methanol or enabling my now installed knock sensor :\

Rollcage will probably fix everything!
and if not, i will pour meth over everything and light a match!

Thats a bummer dude.. Sucks there isnt an alternative to ur dilemna other than purchasing a whole new ecu. Im sure this would be tough, but would finding a used one and reprogramming it be an option? How much is the ecu by itself? Is there a way that you can leave that usb cable in the port in the future so that u dont damage the next ecu? Jus kinda thinkin out loud here..

Re: Something minor but important broke today.

I have no experience with this ecu. So if I am completely wrong, then please nevermind me, just trying to help.

But...If it is just a hardware piece that is broke, what about getting a "geek" (no offense) that is hardcore into fixing and building computers, to break your ecu open and fix it? If it's just a plug then it should be fixable right?

Like I said, I have no experience with you ecu so not sure if this is even helpful.

It will fix the space problem in my garage! No need to Chernobyl the bitch

I find it hard to believe you will sit there and solder up '90-92 e-dashes on the cheap, but you wont solder in one little USB port on your expensive ECM...

Re: Something minor but important broke today.

I have no room to access it to solder. the unit is a sealed weatherproof molding, no way of cracking it open. :\

i agree. it has to be able to be open. it is only sealed because holley doesnt want you messing with it. but if you have to buy another ecu anyway. why not try to fix that one first? you think they'd let you send it to them and they could repair it for a "couple hundred bucks." Hell you could probably send it to a company like A1 Cardone and they could repair it.

Re: Something minor but important broke today.

An update to this issue, Liz Miles, A Holley rep I've met in person tried her best to help me out but the upper management said no go because it can not be repaired with conventional methods. So the solution to the problem recommended was to purchase their handheld controller which gets hard wired in instead of plugging in via USB. The handheld controller has a SD card which I can load files on my desktop with and then pop it into the handheld controller to load into the ecu. I retain full functionality this way. I will still be able to datalog by saving to the SD card as well. I just need to swing the 150 bucks for the controller and I will be back in business and get this knock sensor and Meth kit wired up.

I really looked into this too. Holley uses a single mold casing with only one end open that the electronics board slides into. Then this board is injected with that weatherproof gel like substance. It is literally a one way assembly

Ahh okay. Well it looks like you found a viable alternative. So that is good
