Installing last header bolt

I can't get the header bolt all the way in the back, on the passenger side in..

I got Hooker smog legal headers with the air tubes. I have AC and smog stuff in my car, but I did already remove most of the stuff in the way

Re: Will pay someone to help me install last header bolt

Not sure what your tool inventory is like, but flex attachments, as well as flex headed sockets...along with an assortment of different sized extension, etc, might be what's needed.

Now, that side, I know the easiest way to change the #8 and #6 plug on my car, is from under neath...maybe take a few different looks from different angles

Re: Will pay someone to help me install last header bolt

Yeah, I've tried from the top and bottom. I actually broke the #6 plug while installing the headers, and then I took out the #8 plug to avoid breaking that one. Now I've reinstalled them. So I know I can get to the spark plugs easily, with the headers on.

I took 3 trips to Sears to try to get tools that will work. I bought angled wrenches, crowfeet, and hex bit sockets. (I bought header bolts that you can use either a socket or a hex bit on.) I already had extensions, ratcheting flex wrenches, a flex head ratchet (though it's a Craftsman and not a Snap-On, so there's some positions it won't stay in). Not sure what a flex head socket is, but I do have universal swivel attachments.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is grinding down a wrench or a socket to fit in between the collector tube and the bolt head. That's probably my next move. I also haven't tried a 1/4 in drive hex bit socket yet, but I would have to order that.

You are likely using the usual 3/8" head bolts that came with the headers, similar to these: stainless or black oxide.

While the smaller 5/16" head are stainless or black oxide. These will give you better clearance for a wrench or socket. My Dyno Don headers went on with fuss using these bolts.

Page 2 of this thread, post 62 and 63 specifically have good info.

Thanks!! That did the trick!! There's nowhere to buy those header bolts on a Sunday, so I just ground down the head of a 3/8" head bolt until a 5/16" socket fit. Now I got the headers installed! Thanks!!
