Smog Referee
I've read that if your car is in collector condition and over 35 years old you can take it to a referee for a final visual smog test. The two closest referees listed on DMV's website are both more the 25 miles away. I'm tired of having someone jump in my car to drive it up on the rollers every two years, not to mention the keep lowering the allowable limits so eventually I won't be able to pass. Are there any referee's on this site or anyone else gone through this?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Smog Referee
Last I recall, and it’s been a while, when you got yo a referee and pass inspection they issue a sticker on the originally affending part, or the vehicle itself. This is used as a reference on subsequent smog checks. Do they not do this anymore…?

Re: Smog Referee
I'm not familiar with dealing with state referee's, I reached out to them this year as CA does have a 35-year-old exemption exception. He told me it's very rare that a car would meet all the requirements and sent me the six questions form he has to complete. Along with 35 years old the car must be no longer in production and all OEM parts. Not sure if power pulleys would negate this or not but after 2024 all stock Camaro's older than 35 years can qualify for smog exempt given production has ceased. For those that have Pontiacs you should be able to apply for this now and no longer have to let someone else drive your car!

BTW, they are done with Camaro production:
December 7, 2023
The report that Chevy would kill the Camaro early came from Road & Track, which reported that the final convertible was built back on November 22, and that the coupe's final production day had been moved up from January 2024. Specifically, it was to be built today; December 7, 2023, a date that would live in infamy.Dec 7, 2023
The last one built was a 1LE!

Re: Smog Referee
I was finally cleared for a state referee abbreviated smog inspection and passed not only the emission requirements but as well it's now registered as a collector car. I'll update what happens next once I receive DMV's paperwork.

Re: Smog Referee
Basic sticker was sent, nothing new. I'll have to wait and see what happens in two years, even the referee couldn't say.
