crate engine

I just wanted to know if you guys new of any company that I can call or even better a website that I could go to to take a look at some short blocks or long blocks. It would be great if the company could be in CA. Thanks for any info guys!

I want an assembled block so that I can just slap on some aftermarket parts on there and yank out the old engine and put the new one in.

What size engine are you looking for? G.M. High Performance offers the zz4 short block. Scogin-Dickey, Jim Pace, and other G.M. Performance Parts dealers that advertise in the national magazine price it around $2k. Any Chevy dealer can get it for you.
If you want more displacement, World Products offers a short block as well as crate engine versions of the Motown block. I believe they offer it both as a 415 cubic inch, and as a 427 cubic inch version. I'm not sure if they will pass smog in Ca. They would pass on visual, because they are identical looking to the Chevy small block on the outside, but I'm not sure whether the extra displacement would change exhaust output or not. You would need to go with large base, large tubes and ported plenum at least with these larger engines, or a Super Ram set up to handle the extra cubes. The stock tpi is about done when it is installed in a 350.

Thanks for the reply Russ. I was thinking of staying with the 350. Ill give the Jegs and Pace a little visit on the net and see if they do custom builds.

GMPP has a number of 350 engines available. Something I hadn't thought about until talking to a guy at work who is looking for a 350 for a '66 Chevelle, if you order a complete engine from Pace,
it will cost about $200.00 to have it shipped out here. The good news is that there is no sales tax on an out of state order, unless the company your order from has a facility in Ca! From what I've seen, Pace and Scoggin-Dicky have better prices than local Chevy dealers. Pace has a free catalog of available crate motors as well as various speed parts. You might also look up Scoggin-Dicky on the web, and see if they have a catalog. You might get a buy on one of the engines with the Vortec heads, and the new Vortec compatible base for tpi offered by Scoggin-Dicky.

I'm using the 300 HP 350 crate motor from www.goautocenter.com
It was $1855 ($1955 now) plus shipping (from TX)
Cost about $300 to ship it to San Jose.
No sales tax and they don't take cards.
All new GM shortblock with Crane Compucam and TPI heads.
12,000 miles on it so far, very happy
