Got salt?

Hey everybody, it's been a while.

If anyone can share any pointers on what I know is a common issue I'd sure appreciate it. This is now my second Camaro that I am not going to loose to the same cause.

The problem, cracked floor pan, all the way from the rocker to the trans tunnel. I did a search on the issue and did find that classic industries has replacement pans at about $200 a side, seems fair.

Before I go too head long into this is there any thing else I should be looking for? I just had the car on jacks while putting new tires and rims on it (GTA wheels look nice on Camaros!), and the door openings didn't tweak much, so it's already better off than it's predacessor, but probably not for long.

Anyway, I'm more on the mechanical end aside form R&R body parts, so this is unfamiliar territory, any suggestions or tips? Aside from get another car, which if it helps any, wife's already eyeballing a darn mustang that I don't want anything to do with!

Thanks

So, I must be the only 3rd gen owner in the Chi-town area to deal with a salt ridden floor? No, matter, I'll wing through it, thanks for all the great help

Mine doesn't have cracks, but I have some pretty big holes in the floor from rust. I just patched them with sheet metal and fiberglass for last year to get around and not have to worry about exhaust in the car.

This year I'm going to weld up the big ones and rivet some metal over the small ones. That's teh good thing about a race car, doesn't have to be super pretty

thanks for the reply, I thought I was gong to have to commit myself for talking to myself for a minute there.

I wish mine were as simple as patch and go but unfortunately it's cracked directly under the driver's seat so one of these days I'm gonna hit a bump and end up dragging my butt on the pavement when it finally gives up holding the weight. I've thought about replacing the seat mount bolts with bolt on casters to make the moment more fun

I have done smaller ares in the past mostly foot and leg areas, but never one that involved the seat which is my main reason for seaking the advice. I'd rather not spend the time patching the floor and just replace it and be done with it and get back to motor work where I belong.

Transmission: Caged hamster that runs really fast
Axle/Gears: They are round, I know that much
if you are worried about the car spliting in too, looking into subframe connectors and then do the floor pans and other body metal work, cause if it is already that bad then the unibody will have some serious stress placed against it, might cost a bit more but you will get a nice launchin turning car in the end

SFCs are already in the planning.
