well, I would prefer not to have to get a whole new harness(tight on $$$), but it seems that if i am having a hard time switching between maf computers, that butchering the harness i have now further isnt going to help matters at all.

Let me know. I completely rewired a speed density system, granted it was with a Painless harness (easiest way) but I have done it and would be more than willing to lend a hand

harnesses are not cheap, but if you spend the money it makes it easier with a new one....they are around like $350-400 i think

this is tim and dean....

Mike, let us help you, we have both done it with 100% success. I would hate to see you get help from someone who does not know. Re-pinning the harness and such is not as bad as it may seem.

Catch me on aim.

Conversion kits are very big pieces of crap, ask curtis......

A MAF harness can be re-pinned to work with SD very very easily.

this is true, but you need the connector pick set to take the connectors apart and fit the new wires in

Easy as heck to do.

Once u go from stone age 85 to 86-89 maf its another hr or two to go to SD.

From there u can switch easily to the 749 for boost :-)

Work slowly and mark everything first and write out exactly what your doing.

well, in theory, it is easy as heck to do..... I already repinned everything as it said in the article and wired in the new relays. just one problem NO FUEL PUMP! I did lable all of the pins that i changed so I will have to go back trhu it all. I just hope I didnt fry those MAF relays because I wired them wrong the first time.. Even if i did tho.... how could maf relays prevent the fuel pump from priming?! Jer, you said you thought it was probably w/ the prom i modified, but i dont think so.... still no fuel pump even w/ an unmolested ecm and prom from the 87' tpi I have. Switching to SD, at this point is a last resort, if i cant get this to work.

No you don't. I used either a paperclip or a pin, I don't remember which. Was very easy and I didn't ruin any pins. Took me only a couple hours. Now its just time to get it tuned because my car is wayyyy off now with SD. Ran a lot better on MAF (more self-calibration with a MAF system)..

All I had to buy to convert over was a MAP sensor and connector (I should have an extra Mike), 730 ECM with pigtails (can get the MAP/ECM connectors cheap off of tpiparts.net). Used my stock MAF knock sensor and a resistor instead of buying a new $40 knock sensor.

You will need to either convert to an electronic VSS (might also have a spare one of these...assuming the one in my car is okay) or get one of those adapter boxes to convert your cable to electronic signal for your ECM.

I know there is extra work required if you have an '85 ECM. I'll get you the info on it later.

I have an extra MAF and relays if you need those too :P

lol

Junkyard is cheap :-)

Rob a TBI app of the map sensor and harness.

Snag a 730 from a SD front driver. Get a v8 305 manual memcal.

run the resistor for the knock like he said. Might have to swap sensor since u got a 85, not sure on that.

Shouldnt have to convert anything for the vss, the camaro used a cable until 92? The firebirds switched to the electronic sensor in 86 or 87. So double check the wiring for them.

I'm pretty sure that Camaros switched to VSS when they switched to SD.

camaros switched to VSS in 90. this is considering the mechanical cable clusters were in cars from 82-89.
