I need some help quick!

I need to borrow somebodys chip from their cars computer for about 15 minutes. It has to be from a 91-92 speed density car with a stock L98 computer chip. I have a new chip from the dealer but when I install it the SES light comes on, the IAC motor opens all the way and I cant get any communication with the datalink connector. As soon as I put the 305 chip back in it (the original) it runs fine, the computer communicates and the SES light goes off. If I can find a known good chip to borrow I can prove if the chip that I have is bad or not and if not then I know I have another problem. So anyone that can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I can hook you up with some parts at cost or a 6 pack for your troubles. It shouldnt take any more then 15 minutes to swap the chips in and out and test my theory. Thanks.

I'm not a TPI guy, so I could be wrong on this, but I believe with the 7730 you need to have a 350 cal pak along with the chip. So if you're using a 305 calpak and 350 chip it wouldn't work. I thought I remembered that, but I'm sure jeremy or someone more TPI knowledgable will chime in.

How much did you spend for that chip? If a lot, I'd say return it and buy a blank chip the same size and have one of us burn you one. The .bin files are all over the place and it's a quick job, just another option for ya.

I'm sorry, I think I called it the wrong thing. This is the complete memcal with the chip inside. I paid $60 something for it from the dealer. My engine is all stock so I dont really know how much a custom burn would help. Anyone willing to enlighten me? I'd apprecite it.

P.S. who is Jermey and whats his screen name?

Yeah, Jeremy is the moderator 3.8transam.

I would think it should work if its the correct memcal. Maybe its just a bad chip. You can always benefit from a little tuning, but stock you shouldn't need it, what I was saying was someone could burn you a stock .bin onto a blank $4 chip and save you some cash. But if you bought you still need that memcal you got so...

I dont have time to make it out there and have a booked schedule with work and school.

If someone else doesnt chime in, I guess we can try and work something out.

Its strange that the 305 memcal is fine and the 350 cause issues. If they are both 90-92 SD, they should both be functional on your car.

I almost suspect a memcal issue if the proper 350 doesnt work. Have you checked all pins for straightness and proper connections? Is it locking down in the ecm?

later

Everything is good, it all locks down and all the pins are straight. What kind of damage would I do to the car if i drive it with the LB9 chip for a little while until I get this sorted out.

did you change to the 350 knock sensor as well? as for damage, it will run lean for sure, but you could always bump up fuel pressure as a way to fight that. Sorry kyle my TPI knowledge is as limited as it goes, but i can give you a hug.
