Who in our area gives a fast quality alignment for a decent price. Trying to get my 88 IROC to go straight.

Yeah I was thinking of going to Firestone on Halsted in Homewood. How much did you pay back then (ballpark figure)?

Re: Wheel alignment-recommend one please

Got it done this morning at the Firestone on Lincoln Hwy but Lincon Mall. I got the $150 Lifetime so now any pothole problems or suspension repairs I can get another alignment no charge. I will take full advantage of this too...lol. I hate a car that does not run true.

Re: Wheel alignment-recommend one please

i dont want to say an alignment is an alignment but it kind is. if youre going with factory specs(i would unles youre one of these autocross guys) as long as they can align it to factory specs its fine. the one thing i would recommend is a 4 wheel alignment. what that does on your car is align the front wheels so theyre aligned with the rear wheel positions. your rear axle may not be true to the front. a siimple 2 axle alignment is fine but it just aligns the fronts and you may get a bad case of dog tracking. not too common on a 3rd gen but you never know. i dont think too many guys do 2 wheel alignments anymore but make sure you ask. if you get the deer in the headlight looks or a yeah yeah, move on to another shop. national tire and the some of the other guys offer that lifetime for afew extra bucks.it is nice because you can get free alignments. its their way of getting you back in the door. if youre car is lowered or has a deep pan like mine you may have to hunt around for an alignment rack thats set into the floor or see if theyll ramp their rack to get your car on. my car would clear most racks so i m limited and i only dropped it one inch. the chin spoiler may dig in pretty bad too which is another reason i cant go to most places. im not refinishing it or replacing it when it cracks of rips...........good luck

Re: Wheel alignment-recommend one please

Yeah I bit on the lifetime but maybe I can slip my other (92) Camaro in from time to time...lol...they gave me the printout and I was so far off it was not funny...they did the four wheel alignment...and set it to factory specs...the manager told me you should get an alignment every 5,000 miles, something I never did but will now...I still got a very slight drift but I need to replace the front tires that got chewed up a little on the edges...I like that I can go back at anytime because Chicago is pothole city...thanks for th info...

Re: Wheel alignment-recommend one please

edge wear? you sure its not from lack of roatation? also drifting on occassion? highway? city streets? what size tires? if theyre wider than stock or even stock them city roads are so old that unless its a new road will tend to pull the car, itll want to ride the natural ruts in the road, follow the contour almost as if its "drifting".id say if its nice on the highway its fine. no reason why it should drift on occassion because of the alignment..hows your idler arm and the rest of the steering?

you say they set it to factory specs but was way off? you mean they couldnt get it in range or it was out of range prior or you just feel like its not right? unless the machine is out of whack and its set to factory specs its good. if they couldnt set it to factory bend over, you got bent **** or a car thats been whacked.

that 5000 mile thing is a matter of opinion but if you get the lifetime you can go every 5k for free!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Wheel alignment-recommend one please

every 5k? well its up for opinion but take some earlier ford...the was no algnment to be done other than the toe in and that doesnt really change unless you whack **** and youll know when the steering wheel aint centered. there was no camber or caster settings so why realign? 2nd gen i believe only had toe and chamber adjustment and that was from shims so as long as them bolts were tight an a shim didnt fall out it was impossible to get it out of algnment unless again you whack something or excessive wear....some of the stuff is scams.

Re: Wheel alignment-recommend one please

The edge wear was from lack of rotation. Yes they got it within specs. I menat it was way off prior to the alignment. It's fine now. I just want to put tires on that have NO wear. The front are worn more than the back so I will be getting rid of the front tires soon and then starting a proper tire rotation. All of my suspenison parts are fine, no idler arm or center link, strut or tie rod damage. I run stock tire size 245/50/16 on IROCS.

There is a noticable improvement since the alignment and I will wait to see how it goes when I change tires. At least with the lifetime I will get an adjustment when I switch tires, just because I can.
