6 of 8 rod bearings roasted, I can still see cross hatch marks on cylinder walls maybe get a rotating assembly and do it myself. Hada QUOTE for 4k rebuild it along with valve job and going through the heads.
I'm all for doing it yourself, but that block has to be stripped down to bare and hot tanked/cleaned. That metal debris is everywhere...
Randy, the guy who built my LS, has a disassembled LS3 that he can build to however you want it. Mild to wild, let me know your power level desire and I can ask.

I've got a elgin 1840 in my other block that's brand new that I've seen on lq9 pull around 520hp and I don't plan on doing much more than that.
Hope to get it to the machine shop next week, might just keep the cam stock for now since between all the parts id need and a tune don't want to spend that kind of cash on it right now roughly 2k on top of the machine work. Might give it a cool paint job though not 100% on that yet
Thankfully, the powder coating on them makes cleaning them a cinch. Water, mitt, maybe a little soap if its stubborn. Wipes away just like a Windex commercial.
Below isn't just brake dust accumulation, that's brake dust accumulation from a session at Road America.
Been pretty busy at work and doing a lot of sidejobs lately and family stuff but just picked up the short block yesterday. With the extra side work I might throw the cam I have in before I put it in, need to make a list of everything I need but think it's lifters, rockers, push rods head gaskets front/rear cover gaskets. Should probably clean my mess in the garage up before hand. Still need to figure the speedometer out when I get it going, get the exhaust done and get the ac lines done. I did get the holley engine mounts in so if anyone wants a set of umi mounts I'll sell them.
I'm fairly sure that I'm going to be tearing into the GTA soon. The harness issues have put a major bummer on the GTA. Its not a fun car anymore when the electrical issues make it unreliable. But not sure yet which direction I want to go with it.

Gonna probably suck but fix the wiring, I spent a lot of time researching and modifying my harnesses and made good solder connections everywhere I spliced. Bought a few waterproof connections for a few spots to make future repairs easier
Haven't posted in a while, I've been lazy and slow going. It's running again! I'm trying to figure out the speedometer and why that doesn't work even though I had it working with my lt1 t56 when it still had the 305. I'll hopefully be getting it on my lift soon so I can get the exhaust installed and hopefully drive around a bit before winter. I might take it in this winter to get the ac lines made up and have them figure that all out, also have the shop go over it and possibly a tune and maybe e85 upgrade?
I have to get newer pics its all together and running, probably should get the wiper motor back on to. Went with the complete stainless hooker exhaust this time around since the budget went out the window when I got the bill from the machine shop.
Cleaned some of the disaster up and got it back on the ground, for whatever reason I'm not getting the speedometer to work even though I had it going with the lt1 t56. Now I need to get it on my lift so I can get the exhaust on so I have less chance of waking the kids up when I'm trying to figure the speedometer out.
I too finally got the GTA going after the squirrels chewed the **** out of the harness, I had to splice probably 15-20 wires. I discovered it probably 1-2 months ago and was just demotivated to fix it.
They got the OPTI harness completely, Injector #7, VSS signal, wiper motor relay, etc..
All told, it took me about 2-3 days to finish repairing the engine harness. Annoying as ****.
Ended up using a bunch of those weather resistant self sealing butt splices that have solder in them. And I gotta say, I LIKE these. I wasn't looking forward to trying to tin, and solder a bunch of wires with an iron. This made it super easy. Splice some clean wire, twist it so it secures to the other end, slide the sleeve over then just heat gun it.
Forgot to tighten a bleeder, Forgot to rewire the reverse lockout, coolant wasn't full but I got it moved on the lift to start getting the exhaust on, first time in the sun for a while.
Exhaust done just need to tighten everything after a few more heat cycles, got turn downs made for it since I don't like how the hooker tips looked anyways and they would need modifications to fit with my factory ground effects. Also picked another 92 pontiac up to daily drive.
Facebook has taken a lot of traffic from forums. That being said, a LOT of the traffic on the FB pages are entitled people asking for all information to be spoon fed to them. Hardly anyone asking questions on any of the pages have actually done any research on their own, or any reading at all. You would not believe how often the same question gets asked over and over. Google is synonymous with "search", but no one uses it. I love the forums, almost anything you could ask has already been covered repeatedly.
1 year later and I'm still around. Again, just looking for another ride. Had a few I wanted to see earlier this year but before I had the chance to see them, they were snipped! Never knew how hard it is nowadays to find a decent 3rdgen without the overhyped price tag!
Was planning on seeing another bird this weekend but it sounds like it's about to have a new owner and that someone isn't me....
I've been super lazy with working on it since around the holidays, I did get the brake line fixed that was spraying everywhere. Need to get it working on figuring the speedometer out, won't have heat or ac this year but hoping to get it out a little.
