Forums dead? I haven't been on here in forever, looks like its slower than it use to be what's everyone up to? Been doing an ls2 swap in mine other than that nothing much going on.
Facebook has taken a lot of traffic from forums. That being said, a LOT of the traffic on the FB pages are entitled people asking for all information to be spoon fed to them. Hardly anyone asking questions on any of the pages have actually done any research on their own, or any reading at all. You would not believe how often the same question gets asked over and over. Google is synonymous with "search", but no one uses it. I love the forums, almost anything you could ask has already been covered repeatedly.

I'm on a lsx swap thirdgen on Facebook and it's exactly as you said 90% want spoon fed everything even easily answered questions with a basic search.
I mean. I think the real Thirdgen guys are still here, and honestly, that's all that really matters.
^^^^THIS
FB is okay for family/friends interaction, but for anything of a technical nature, it's a rat's nest of inaccuracy, guesses, and outright confusion posted by fanbois, wannabes, and knuckleheads. If you want to know anything related specifically to 3rd-gen Camaros, this forum is the only place to be.
Everyday on fb "how do you do an ls swap.....no negative comments please this is my first swap." I repeatedly tell them to go to the forums cause the foundation information is already here. But I feel fb is for people wanting a quick answer. in 2020 nobody will be the first person to have an issue with their car that hasn't already been addressed. A simple search could remove a good amount of wasted posts.
SO MANY POSTS on the FB pages have just downright WRONG information. I keep getting bans on FB so I can't reply to the posts directly, I'll shoot the people with (real, uncovered) questions a DM to get them straightened out

I see new posts here every day, so I don't know how anyone can think this forum is "dead"...
I don’t think Dave is talking about TGO in general. The site is still very active.
I think he’s more talking about the social sub forums. Midwest has definitely fallen off, and this particular NWI Suburbs forum is definitely what I’d consider a zombie.
And recently I've been keeping an eying a Holley Terminator X package to replace the OEM computer. Moving to a Coil near Plug Cam/Crank sensor with WB02 input would solve so much of the teething problems with this cam. The stock computer just hates it sometimes.
But when the car is on its game? Oh god, like somebody lit a Saturn V rocket in the trunk.
Rolling along in 1st gear? Blow the tires away at any point you want with barely half throttle.
2nd gear? Still blows them away if you hammer it. But if you roll into it when its already moving it just leaps to the redline.
3rd gear still moves like a raped ape (who rapes an ape anyways? Sick bastards). But the traction issues are gone, however its still a short ride to the top of 3rd, even with 3.23's in back.
4th gear, is fun, but you are deep in to either the Monopoly Go to Jail card, or deep an experiment that smear you into your component atoms if you screw up.
And honestly, I'm too damned chicken to run 5th out. I've run it partially through 5th and it didn't stop pulling. Car was still accelerating and based on Tach math was doing 180mph+. The windows had long since been sucked since 4th gear. If I had a laptop it would be screaming Danger to manifold and then the passenger foot well would fall off.
A little more wire cleaning, going slow during the holidays and stuff I'm doing to the house. Hopefully next week wrap up the wiring, I have a few power wires to extend, extend the wires for the gas pedal and odb port and oil pressure sensor and im sure something else I forgot.
Nice. How does that gun work? I've always found it a pain in the *** to drag my hobby grade soldering iron out to the car when I need to solder heavy gauge wires. I mean, if a lithium pack can power a 1/2" impact then it should be able to melt a soldering iron tip into a puddle of goo.
I'm on here 2-3 times a day and have been here for a loooong time. Didn't register for a while in the beginning but then I did about a year? later.. 20 some years now
Recently got a ban on a FB f-body page by some mod because "I didn't know how things work on their page".. Apparently having fun and a touch of sarcasm are frowned on. (even though they say have fun in the "rules"). The question had been answered many times already in the thread. Found out he's even semi local to me and sometimes goes to the same cruises. Can't wait to ask him if he figured out about his converter and if it made his car louder when removed. (Yes, that was the question he asked, a 40-50 yr old "car guy")

I think it's worth the 79 bucks, I already have a bunch of batteries. It's a little bulky but kind of what I figured it would be, but its really convenient not having to pull a cord out all over where I'm working. It heats up in about 20 seconds and claim you can solder for an hour on one battery not sure never paid attention just throw in another battery

I'm still around but haven't posted anything for awhile. I have been wanting to find another ride but it has been a difficult feat to say the least. I have checked the classifieds here but there really not a whole lot there and they're old posts too. I'm looking to spend between $1,500-2,500 depending on the options the car has. Preferably a 88-92 Pontiac Formula 350 bird with T-tops. If anyone got any leads to one please let me know. Willing to travel to at least a state over from Illinois to go see one. Don't mind if it's a project car as long as the body is solid and mostly stock mechanically. Alternatively I can go for a 305/5speed as well. Still missing my GTA and that was over 10 years ago!

Didn't have a choice dude! I lost my job in '09 and had to pay bills. It was a bad time and the recession was going on. Took awhile to find a decent paying job afterwards.
...now that i'm somewhat stable and got a garage of my own, it's time to fill back that void!

I was just giving you a hard time, I almost sold mine around 2009 but I didn't have enough money at the time for a new flywheel to get it back on the road and my mom was against me selling it since she said you'll always have bills but might not have another chance of getting a car.
In other news got it running last week so this week started getting some of the wires cleaned up. The volt gauge works on the dash and got the tachometer working, not sure how accurate it is but at least works. I need to get an older one wire oil pressure sending unit to get the dash gauge at least working so I have and idea if I lose oil pressure I know it won't be accurate seeing my dash only goes to 30psi. I need to extend the main wires going to the battery and electric fan to be able to tuck it all closer to the firewall. And started to get some of the coolant lines in and figuring all of that out, I still need to wire in the reverse lockout and double check the trams wirining. While the car is in the air I need to get a new differential cover since mine leaks after it looks like I hit something bending the bottom of the cover pretty good causing a leak.

The gauge cluster only goes to 30psi on your car? Thats nuts.
The sender on my GTA went out early this year. Sucked. Just pegs itself as soon as it seems voltage. Easy to replace.
However, I still need to replace the fuel sending unit. Not knowing how much gas is in the tank worse than any electric car's range anxiety. Specially when it only gets about 13mpg.
I have come here less this year because the pandemic threw me curve *****. It’s a little more time consuming to have to sign in and use the forums on a mobile device. Much less downtime. During the summer Camaro groups I’d meet up with at cruise nights would all be on FB so it was just easy because your phone is always connected to it. Then you end up getting invited to 10 other Camaro groups. The people on there are not the most knowledgeable for the the most part but when serious questions get asked they get sent here. It’s a fun diversion.
I try to come by for the COTM and if I had a serious question I’d come here and not FB for sure.
I’m trying to come back more often because this is the most valuable Thirdgen resource even though it’s not as in your face accessible as FB. I’ve told people to come make accounts here but it’s a tough sell. Joining a group in FB is just too easy. Just click a button.
All those people that Google questions about their Thirdgens no doubt end up here... They aren’t diagnosing and troubleshooting on FB...
Been a while since I did a long highway cruise with the GTA and its kind of nuts to realize that the GTA likes to super cruise. Combination of the tall 3.23 gearing, and bigger cam means that while 60-80mph in 6th gear is doable, 90mph+ in 6th gear results in a buttery smooth ride as the cam chop disappears since the engine is now above 2400rpm. And acceleration in 6th gear becomes pretty much effortless.
One of these days I need to put the properly sized gear in the car so the engine can stay in its powerband.
Getting close only wiring i know for sure needs to get done is the ac compressor and oil sending unit when it comes in then clean all the wires up. Trimmed the cover to fit and need to clean them and figure out the best way to mask it off, I'm sure it won't be a quick masking job.

Can you share with me what you did for heater core hoses?
Also what gauges you going with? I did the Dakota Digital and it is amazing.
Waiting for the heater core parts as I'm not 100% sure where I'm running them yet hoping this weekend get the parts for the cooling system. The gauges I'm using are 1992 firebird dash, so far everything but the oil pressure works which I'm also waiting for the oil sending unit I previously had a lt1 t56 when I had the 305 and used a Dakota digital box for the speedometer which I reused since I had that already figured out I'm trying to keep it as stock looking as possible.
More done, found a topic on the lsx swap page on the heater core and kindof followed how they did the heater core and valve. Need to get the ac lines done next and get exhaust ordered when taxes come, but did get the ac and trinary switch tied in hopefully the right way. Also made a intake from a silverado ebay cai I modified the pipe and made a small bracket to hold it up, got the main console in and did a little cleaning and now can see the tool bench provided in front of the radiator.
I tool use the Toolbench in front of the radiator. However, it seems to be of poor design, I can never find that 10mm socket when I need it because it always falls down to the bottom drawer.
I had speed inc remove the vats and they did a basic header/exhaust tune since it's 100%stock other than that, wish I knew about the skip shift before my dumbass cut it out. It runs and I'm having a hard time right now getting the speedometer to work even though I wired it exactly as it was when I had the lt1 t56 in.
I have an appointment to get the exhaust installed Friday afternoon so at least I can drive it around. Still need to sort the ac lines out, heater works really well I found a post here where they used a van heater core valve.
First drive ran like a bat out of hell, then lost oil pressure which hopefully I shut down in time. Will need to mess around this weekend to at least figure if it's locked up

engine can run a bit without oil. you're fine.
how'd it feel?
do you happen to have all part numbers for heater and ac system so far? I def need to add both those systems this year.
