Thirdgen Fest '08 NEED HELP WITH DOORS!
Hi all...looks like Thirgen Fest '08 will be packed this year!
I have purchased new doors for my 1986 Camaro Berlinetta from Denny (and
am driving down from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) and
need help Friday afternoon/early evening putting them on...
I have never done this, and Denny & Beth suggested that they can help and
that I might be wise to ask help from other people with experience.
I have power windows and locks, I can dismantle my old doors (mirrors/iniside door panels/armrest, etc) but lack the confidence to properly hang/mount new doors...heeeeeelllllllpppppp!
I would be willing to reward experienced helpers with say...."Canadian Club"???
Please let me know your Thirgen Fest '08 ETA if interested - I will plan accordingly!

Re: Thirdgen Fest '08 NEED HELP WITH DOORS!
a floor jack and an extra pair of hands is all you need.
long 1/2" breaker bar, whatever size door bolts are on the inside by the kick panel you'd need a 1/2" deep socket for, preferably impact sockets. around here you can buy a set from a parts store for relatively cheap and they never break. then various extensions and a ratchet should do it. 6 bolts i believe hold the doors on, then lining them up is a bit of a pain.

you'll see the outline of where the old doors were on the door frame when you remove them for sure, it'll look like brand new paint underneath. Not too bad a job swapping them I'd imagine. good luck.

i believe the bolt sizes are 13mm and 15mm.

ya removing the fenders from the back isn't too bad, just a few bolts here and there, and that dreaded bolt from underneath, maybe you should have that one broken loose before heading down here.

ask on the body board on the main page and someone will know for sure, I haven't taken them off in 3 years so I'm a little fuzzy, I'm pretty sure they need to be at least moved out of the way.
Re: Thirdgen Fest '08 NEED HELP WITH DOORS!
you dont have to remove the fenders. that would just be a nightmare. you would have to remove the hood to do that anyway. all you have to do is remove the kick panel on the inside and remove the splash guard or plastic lining inside the wheelwell. I did mine that way by myself with no problem. Its a little tricky getting the to bolts in the back of the hinges to start but with one guy on either side of the door to get it lined up you shouldnt have a problem.
