drag slicks!
i have heard that drag tires can take 1/2 a second or more off your 1/4 mile time.
i have a question, i have the stock GTA wheels(16x8) and i also have a set of chrome wheels(15x7) i want to get some drags for my car buti am not sure what is better. i could get a 9 inch wide full drag tire that is for track use only and would go on the chrome wheels so i would put them on at the track or i could get some 10" wide tires that are street legal drag slicks to fit the cross lace wheels. which would be a better setup for a faster 1/4. my is basically to be able to floor it off the line with very little tire spin.

All that slicks will do is reduce wheel spin. If you don't have the HP to spin the tires then slicks won't do anything for you.
When you notice everyone complaining about poor 60' times it's usually because of wheel spin with street tires. Simply by using slicks so that the car will hook up, 60' times will decrease. When 60' times decrease, ET also decreases.
A car that runs 12.5 at 105 mph can then run 12.0 at 105 mph (numbers just used as comparison). The mph is a direct result of HP. Only changes to the engine will change the HP however ET depends on traction. The more torque you can get to the ground to use, the quicker the car will be.
Rim choice is whatever you want but good slick choices are only for a 15" rim. Width depends on the tire size. I use 15 x 10 rims with a 5.5" backspace and currently run Hoosier 29 x 9 slicks. I still have enough room to squeeze 29 x 10 slicks with no fender modifications.

i was talkin to someone on this site and forgot there name but they said that he put a 15x8 rim with a 10.5'' wide slick or dot slick on his car. ill try and find the PM he sent me.
heres part of the conversation: Re: Question about the weld rims?
The wheels that were on my White Iroc were actually centerline Telstar wheels . 15x8 rear with 4.5" bs and 26x10.5 ET streets , the fronts were 15x4 with Dunlop 165r15 radials . No clearence problems anywhere on those . The wheels even cleared the big rear disc brakes that I had . My buddy has a 85 trans am and runs draglights . 15x3.5 w/ 165r15 radials up front and a 15x8 with 4.5" bs rear with 28x12.5 15 .
