...if it isn't already on there.

With the '57 Saturday at Bandimere's Fall Racing Series, I made it to the semi's in the Trophy class (I bulbed 1st round of non-electonics Bracket II, so ran down and signed into the Trophy race - might as well make something out of the day). After the burnout, I did my normal neutral rap of the engine, and it didn't sound right. Did a crow hop (also normal), it died. Wouldn't start. Opened hood, took off air cleaner, wasn't flooded. They pushed me back and off to the side, the other guy got the broke single (he had a bye the round before) and ran .09 off his dial.

Cause of the "break"? I ran out of gas! Borrowed a gas can, put 3 gallons in, the gas gage came up to where it was when I left home that morning. Guess that isn't enough to drive 7 miles and make 7 passes.

I think there'll be a can with extra gas in it at the track with me from now on.

I've seen guys run out of gas after crossing the finish line and can't make it back.

How about being stuck in the staging lanes and the engine won't turn over only to find the tranny still in gear (neutral start working like it's supposed to)

We had a breakdown in the water box today. Ran out of fuel.

We also had someone lose a race because they took to long to get to the staring line. After a set period of time the starter just lets the other guy go.

I did that earlier this summer. Thought the starter had stuck - again. Jumped out, did the ol' "screwdriver on the solenoid trick", it started. I got a little "talking to" over that one. Replaced the started the next week. Hasn't been an issue since (and it's always in "Park" or "Neutral" when it gets shut off now).

We had two auto-start losses in finals in the same evening this summer. It's said "autostart on" on the time slips all year long, nobody thought much about it - until that night.

The other guy in that last race even backed out from being staged to give me an extra chance (the starter gave him that option). Nice jesture, even though I had waived him on. Didn't make any difference in the end, but it was appreciated.

One of my timeslips today says

Autostart on
Both staged at starter go

My opponent rolled in and turned both lights on before my dial-in was posted on the scoreboard for me to check. If it's not correct and you light the prestage light, you run that number. Once my dial-in was displayed I did my normal prestage and stage routine. I won the round with a .604 light since my opponent was almost 1/4 second slower than his dial. After I passed him at the 1000 foot mark I hit the brakes to scrub off some time just incase I was going to break out.

Bandimere has a small box for each lane in front of the burnout box that will display your dial-in as the pair in front of you runs. So, you have plenty of time before you pre-stage to check it (and, if you move up to stage with incorrect time displayed - sorry, Charlie).

Doesn't always work, though. Once, they punched in the incorrect time, I had them change it (was like a .02 slower than what I wanted), and wouldn't you know it, it ran the time they dialed in first.
